big jigsaw?

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

i find that i have to take my mouse apart every now and then ,to clean the fluff off of the rollers when it is sticking.

now the keys on my keyboard are playing up;(shift ,return,a few letters).
they f**k-up -dont work- 9 out of 10 times and are getting worse.and the keys that do work are slowly diminishing in number.as i don't have a dust cover i'm assuming the problem is the same/similar as for the mouse.has anyone taken a keyboard (seperate unit) apart before?is it easy or is it a big igsaw that you've lost the lid/picture for? :?:

I've taken one apart and cleaned it all out. f**ked up the keyboard, but that might have been cause I'd spilled a warm beverage over it, rather than because I'd opened and cleaned it. :P

I've taken apart a few keyboards, it helps if you have another keyboard as a reference when you put it back together. It's no big deal, once you've popped off the keys you can chuck in a tub of soapy water and give 'em a good clean.

As for your mouse problem: get an optical mouse, they really make a difference.

 Oh dear! Depending on the key-board make the letters are usually the same so here goes.....

``1234567890-=\*backspace key*
*tab key*qwertyuiop[]*entre key*
*Caps lock key*asdfghjkl;'
*shift key*zxcvbnm,./*shift key*
*ctrl key**windows key**alt key**space bar**alt key**windows key*

The above are the actual keys on the *main part*....
Number section:
*num lock key*/*-
789+
456
123*entre key*
0.

Arrow section: that one should be easy :innocent:

*Middle Keys*:
*Insert* *Home* *Page Up*
*Delete* *End* *Page Down*

The top part of keyboard:
ESC key F1F2F3F4 F5F6F7F8 F9F10F11F12 *Print screen**Scroll Lock**Pause*

Does this make sense or should I delete the post?

They're fab - I just bought one with blue and pink flashing lights that react to movement!

Seriously though they are like a normal mouse but they don't have the little rollerball thingy - therefore they don't clog up with gunk and they are more smooth when you move them 8)

My broken computer gear is currently host to a tribe of pygamies who have no idea of the outside world and worship a broken monitor as the Dark God.

Suffice to say, repairs don't happen often.

My keyboard is truly vile... covered in some unidentifiable BROWN STUFF, particularly on the keys 9,u,p,j,k,',c,v,b,n,m.... :urff:

Why don't I clean it? Because I'm a dirty tink, that's why. :P ;D

I don't have balls to clean either :innocent: I'm on a laptop with a touch pad

The keyboard is quite clean too - but thats because I've borrowed it from Paul (mine's sitting on a table too far away for me to be arsed to plug it into the network  ). The keyboard on my laptop, although clean, is very well used and some of the letters are a little difficult to read. I've only noticed this in the last few months..................since joining HL

oh,that's an optical mouse is it?i know what you mean now. i had a vision of some sort of theramin affair where you waved your hand around in a light beam! :innocent:

well, i'ld say i had a 75% success:not bad considering none of you had warned me of the hundreds of little rubber nippley bits that have to be carefully lined up with a pair of tweezers ,with the keyboard key-side down,so you can't rest it on a surface without knocking said rubber nippley bits out again!
or about the plastic sheet with heavy lump at one end that is the circuitboard;making placement of it on top of the RNB's one -handed without disturbing said RNB's tres difficult!
in fact the very things i feared and asked you about !

ne'ermind -it's all a learning curve;and it mostly works again.there must have been nearly a roll-up's worth of baccy inside it!

I have one of them. Mines a wireless though, which is a pain in the arse because the batterys drop dead on a weekly basis.

Same problem, very nice mouse though, Microsoft with lots of buttons (try to get one with as much buttons, they're the best!), about the only thing they're good at at Microsoft  I also have to change surface every now and then, for some odd reason it doesn't work on surface A after X time, so I go to surface B which has about the same problem after about half an hour... Plus it does seem to freeze every now and then because of dirt getting sticked to the pads used to slide, have to scratch them quite often...

Oh, and if you really got money to spend: get one of those Logitech Laser mouses, normal opticals are just with infrared or something, and don't do shiny surfaces but those new ones: you really can use them on whatever surface you want...

And keyboards, well, this one is getting greyer and greyer, should've never bought a white one  My previous one was the same but in black and it was just so much cooler ;D And on the one before that one most buttons were blank because of using it quite a lot, Didn't clean this one yet, really

i try not to buy things if someone's giving them away -our whole computer set-up (technically my missuses) came from her dad's office.nothing too flash- amd sempron processor, windows xp- but apart from not having a cd burner it does pretty much all i need.(getting cd-rw drive for my birthday next month- can't wait to start weeding)

and your right -car boot sales and the like are cool for most electrical stuff- every now and then you'll get burned but such is life.

another good trick to give your keyboard a bit of a clean , and to dislodge the biscuit crumbs , is turn it upside down and tap it on the desk.(if you put a large tissue or similar under it , you can catch the crumbs that fall out, you neverf know , there may be enough to reconstruct a whole biscuit)
