Extras, Les Dennis

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I've been puzzling over this for 12 hours now....

Extras last night was, in my opinion, a fantastic bit of telly but quite what it was I'm not sure. Comedy? Drama? A drama documentary detailing the fall of Les Dennis?

And Dennis himself, I'm not 100% sure why he did it. Was it just the need to be back in the limelight, was it some kind of therapy or was it just plain stupid and Ricky Gervais is taking advantage of a vulnerable person? I have no idea but it was still good telly.

I watched it last night and found myself in a right quandry - should I laugh? Should I be thinking 'there, there, Mr Dennis' Should I wince?

I think I winced more at Gevais doing the Genie bit, more.

Bravo to an unusal half hour of tv.

Good man Les Dennis being able to laugh at himself.

Is it just me or were the Graham Norton impressions pure genius? Gervais and Marchant have given him plenty of new material right there. ;)

I felt so sorry for him. Still laughed though. Am I going to hell?

argh! And I missed it because I thought I'd be a snob and not watch Extras because "it's not as good as the office." :|

I don't really like Extras. I'm not sure about what's funny and what isn't, really. I end up cringing more than laughing.
Now Catherine Tate, that's a comedy to behold.

I missed Absolute Power, but I suppose I can just get the series on DVD.

Sheer brilliance I thought. You beat me too starting the thread.

Les naked in the dressing room. Magical.
It is cringe worthy and his motives are questionable but what a wonderful half hour of TV.
I wasn't sure if Extras would be as good as The Office but I think in it's own right it is already a classic and I can't wait for the DVD.

Catherine Tate? Am I bovered? Bollox.

Catherine Tate is the funniest thing on telly atm.

Missed 'em all, worse luck. Since when was Thursday the comedy night?

As for Les Dennis...what happened? I thought they always took the mick out of themselves immensely? Was it a bit too much?

I wasn't too impressed with Extras at first, but it's really come into its own now it's got going.

Catherine Tate there's some characters I think let it down slightly (farting woman for example) but on the whole I'm a fan. The drunken bride last night was definitely worth a :notworthy:

Absolute Power was fantastic. As Dark says he didn't see it I won't comment on the story though. Don't want to spoil it; suffice it to say, this episode was postponed from 21st July...

Oh, comment, by all means. Usually, since parental overlords demand me going to bed at 10pm, I simply watch it very quietly, and thus end up missing half the storyline.

Besides, chances are, I'll forget anyway :P

God, you poor bastard. I forgot how terrible it was being a teenager at home.
Do you want me to adopt you so you can live a decadent hedonistic angst ridden teenage lifestyle?

Ah. All a bit tough then. Mind you, at least you've got a telly in your bedroom - I had none of that. It was John Peel quietly under the pillow in my day apart from Fridays when Vance was rocking as I remember although possibly wrongly.

Being 15's great, enjoy it.

And possibly invest in a video. Or if you have a pc in your room get a tv card that will show the subtitles, make it a freeview one while you're at it. I'm full of good ideas me!

<edit> Some of my ideas are possibly a bit overcomplicated compared to Mrs RJ's above of course.

Oh, it used to be John Peel for me too.

Now it's Radio 4 at 11pm for comedy or Westminster, and then Radio 5Live from midnight.

My PC is downstairs, sadly, and not in my room. :P

I've only seen clips of this thing but to me it seems a bit... "the lady doth protest too much".

"Hey! I can laugh at myself!"

But Les dear, there's no need when you've got the massed ranks of Britain's tabloid media to do that for you...
