for what it's worth...

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

I think it's safe to say that songs by 15/16 year olds who are Sisters fans are quite likely to be good songs for the future. ;)
I bet thats what That Guitarist thought when he was in Dead or Alive.....

Eldo is now farter away from "stadium band" (not to mention an album) then ever, thanks to his setlists and attitude. So my frustration about the setlist is based on this: eldo continues like this -> non-addiced audience stays away -> smaller venues -> no bookings -> eldo is pissed -> eldo retires -> no more sis concerts.
I have trouble understanding your argument. Are you saying that you think it would make better sense for the Sisters to become a "nostalgia act", playing 80's era favourites for the neo-goth crowd? Do you think that that would turn them into a stadium act again?

I really don't understand what the whining, negative, cynical crowd on this board, who seem to hate every decision Eldritch has made since 1990 (at least) think that he should be doing. I get the nasty feeling that the only thing that would make them happy would be a reunion tour with Hussey. Which, for me, would signal the true death of the band.

I don't want the Sisters to be a nostalgia act.

Agreed, Blackrose.

It's pretty understandable Mr E. wants to alienate from his past because if that did not exist, audiences would be able to look at Sisters as what they are now, instead of going to their concerts with their silly expectations and then whining how it wasn't what they wanted instead of realizing how f'n brilliant the Sisters truly are right now.
If Sisters are a nostalgia act for some, that is the shame for those who think so...Sisters have long ago abandoned their past and roots and moved forward. Von does absolutely nothing to imply he wants to cash in on his earlier cult status. (It's bands like Metallica and Guns N' Roses, and just about any other old band who still has a record label, who are full of garbage now and do nothing but ride the wave of their early days of success...as for new bands, new bands seem to be anti-music and anti-art, only those kinds of bands get record deals these days)

The inability people have for moving onwards and having a fresh look at the world never ceases to amaze me.

In the end it's pretty simple. You like the Sisters. You go to their concert. If you like what you get, you're happy. If you don't like it, you won't go again. What is the problem here? i believe that is all E. wants out of anyone. The source of all the whining and cynicism has nothing to do with the Sisters, people are cynical and whine because they have problems in dealing with a world that is turning. Sorry, but the world simply isn't consturcted in the way humans who are out of touch with it would be eternally satisfied.
(This is just an unfounded suspicion, but i am willing to bet that the cynics and the whiners are cynical and whining about just about everything in their lives, not just the Sisters...it's always someone's fault that things are not the way they think they should be)

No, not a nostalgic act...I'd say if you look at The Cure, that gives you an idea how such dinosaurs can mix old and new without becoming a "nostalgic act"...

we weren't discussing DVD's were we? we were talking about live setlists.

as i was taking the comments from another thread (another section of the forum in fact) i had to hand-type all the quotes across.obviously this was a lengthy process so i edited (.....) where possible.however i did link to the original text with a "clicky" so as the quotes coud be looked at in context.

Although I empathise with some of the views what you must remember is that to some of us, and with that I mean me, the Sisters will always remain an original and respected band. There is no-one like them.
I am not saying there are currently better bands, ie bands that release new songs that you can buy/download, but we are talking of the Sisters. This is a band that created their own niche, they blasted their own path and I, for one, will continue to see them and enjoy their live and recorded material as long as I can.
We cannot expect them to be consistently good, but to me when they are poor they are still WAY better than most of their potential rivals.
