Wien venue changed
last update: 2005/08/04

Sharp-eyed Johan Aman reports that Sisters venue in Wien has been changed from Arena Wien's Open Air hall to Arena Wien's Große Halle, as can be seen here (at the very bottom).

Open Air venue holds 3000 viewers, while Große Halle - just 490 (as seen here).

Shame, really. They are as good as they were 10 years ago, but much less punters care about it.

This probably means that:
(a) if you haven't bought your ticket yet, do so quickly
(b) cancellation is a remote possiblity, but definitelly realistic one
(c) Sisters will probably won't play to Austria in nearest future (possibly never ever), as no Austrian organizer will want to lose money on them
(d) it might be speculated that by showing that the band can only draw several hundred people in some places, this might jeopardize business Sisters operations, similarly to how lukewarm success of To the Planet Edge tour in US and Smoke and Mirrors tour in UK more or less closed the doors for further Sisters tours in these countries

For those 490 people it will probably be interesting to see Sisters play in tiny venue. On the other hand, the band usually benefits a lot from a large, go-for-it crowd in front of them - so added intimacy might be for worse than for the better.
i'd completely disagree with the last point after seeing a similar-sized gig at york uni in 2001 which was a barn-stormer, and the joseph's well one on tuesday which was even better, but there you go. i just cut and paste ;)

a great night out

the venue was great for a sisters gig in my opinion. did enjoy it very much, much more than the last gigs i have seen. strong and powerful sound, sómetimes a bit muddled everything but really enegertic. and it hat these moments i am after, like the end of romeo down when you can't discribe whats happening around you - just pure pleasure - einfach ein wahnsinn.

beside the gig i met many people from here and there for the first time, had some words with andrew before and with adam and chris after the gig. what a pleasure.

and the best - i decided to go to tabor today - what a pleasure!

still a smile on my face.

some additions:
although sometimes the bass was reverberating to much, this show created some of the finest moments i have seen. it happens when the all parts get one in the mix. and this happened quite often during this show. even the more "boring" parts/tracks gain an irresistible drive. as mentioned before romeo down was one of these moments, but in fact most of the tracks played had these moments.

there ars still some things i would change, but its not my band. (e.g. play lucretia for 10 minutes, drop some tracks (will i dream), turn up the volume of the acoustic guitar especially during flood 2). in fact the setlist is strong and really works during the whole show. thats great.

after the show i had to find out that chris is an excellent table-soccer player. he together with a mate beat me and my girl 7-6. i am looking for revenge....

i am looking for the next one to arrive.

That will come from his days working in Joseph's Well. You could barely get him off the table-football table long enough to serve a drink

It was a good gig, but it was a nutters' night:

"ANDREW! We've made it, now play Body & Soul."

"Andrew? Have you heard me? I said:....."

Other nutters extinguished their cigarettes on a HLers back, punched me in my kidneys and called a friend of mine an english bitch.

:urff:

Paul, I've been trying to look at your site all day and all the links lead to error pages! Anyone else having this problem?

As for the Vienna gig, I enjoyed it a lot despite the best efforts of one of the afore-mentioned nutters to prise me off the rail and steal my place. When that didn't work, she tried to deafen me by shrieking as loud as possible. When she bored of that, she just resigned herself to being a general nuisance by waving her arms and shaking her hair in front of my face. She got some payback during Lucretia though when my elbows really started moving - revenge was sweet  The gig itself was great although I can't remember specifically why! I also enjoyed hanging around outside in the good weather before and after the show.

Everything coming from the stage was great :notworthy:
but some creatures in the audience (look Andrew's comment) who had no respect towards other human beings did their best to ruin everyone else's fun - no thanks to them

I also went to the Zurich show, and this was my first sisters show since Wembley 90.
very good show indeed, though I am not convinced by the speeding up of old classic, even if I understand the will to make these songs evolve.

Anyway, nice shots Paul

something different: andrew was asked to do an interview with austrian alternative radio statio fm4 before the gig (same station he did the well known interview back in 1990). he kept the interviewer waiting for 3 hours until eventually canceling the interview by telling something like he would be too wasted/tired to do it.
