Covers of the Sisters

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

except for the sisters are murphy, there are a few bands that actually cover sisters songs quite well. i have lots of tribute albums to the sisters. most of them are really bad, but there's usually one or two songs that are quite acceptable.
there's a cover of "lucretia" by dan swanö who has played in numerous bands like "edge of sanity" and his latest band called "nightingale". he also produced theatre of tragedy's first album i believe. anyway, his version of "lucretia" is very heavy. the guitars are tuned down to match his deep and rusty voice. the song is a bit short though. i highly recommend it. it can be found on the tribute album "a merciful tribute to the sisters". there's also a great version of 1959 by dreadful shadows. their version is not quite as slow and dirgelike. instead of a piano you have heavy guitars. this version i recommend too. it can be found on the "monochrome" tribute album.
then there's a cover of "more" by some australian band called "one". i think it's a one-man-solo thing. the sound isn't all that good but i think his voice compensates for that.
let's not forget that paradise lost and cradle of filth have covered sisters songs. paradise lost did "walk away" and cradle of filth did "no time to cry" i believe.
maybe some of you have already heard these covers. just thought i'd let you know anyway.

I think The Dreadful Shadows cover is very good indeed, but I was surprised the most by The Shroud, with their very 'classical' sounding cover of 'Alice'... And Dan Swanö is also very good... Really liked Edge of Sanity, too, especially the old 'Unorthodox'-CD.

I have 3 Sisters' tribute-compilations:
1. A Merciful Tribute To The Sisters
2. Monochrome
3. Violent Hour
And this Swedish one is the best from this 3 by my opinion.
I don't have First Last And Forever yet (I'm going to correct this mistake very soon).
Are there any more Sisters' tribute-compilations?

By the way nobody mentioned This Corrosion by German band In Extremo.
Hope I write correctly the address where it's possible to see this video clip:

I recall one more cover:
"Under The Gun" by Syria
but it's total misunderstanding for me why they did it...

Kreator made a cover of "Lucretia", to be found on their best-of.

Lambchop's cover of This Corrosion is the only cover I listen to, so far all the other covers I've heard have sounded pretty dire.

Lachert, it's a good idea!
If you are serious
maybe you could contact with Swedish or German guys
who have composed these compilations
and ask what did they do at first.
It just came to my head,
maybe other H-landers have any better suggestions.

Another one is Temple of Love by Puppetsphere. Released as a single with an instrumental remix called "Devil in a Black Dress" as the b side.

NEW COVERS' COMPILATION!
look at this:

http://www.side-line.com/

[29 October 2002]

Anti-goth Sisters get a goth tribute as thank you
"Thank you" is another Sisters Of Mercy tribute CD out on the Orkus
related Zoomshot label. Although the band is no longer that keen on
being put in the gothic corner, they now receive a tribute from bands
such as Terminal Choice, Atrocity, Umbra Et Imago, Letzte Instanz,
Dkay.Com (Ex-Die Krupps), Unheilig, Nik Page, Die My Darling,
Unheilig, Foetus, Mantus, Samsas Traum, Warren Suicide, Frown and so
on. The band that no longer wants to be goth celebrated by the dark
community, let's see what Eldritch has to say about that...

Ages ago, when Napster was still working, I started to download "Alice" by Toxic Coma Malice (I think)... It never completed, but unfortunately the bit that did download got lost when my old harddrive died. It was a bizarre rendition, sounding like it was recorded in someone's bedroom on a standard tape player, with all the lines sung in very strange voices & accents. Anyone else heard this, or have any more info on it? Would love to download it again cos it did make me laugh
