Gay Paree

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Anyone been to Paris lately? If so, can you recommend a decent and moderately priced hotel in the Sixth? Only for one night--I ain't been round those parts in about 8 years (eek!) so I'm in need of a little direction.

I post this even though I suspect we're not, on the whole, Paris people here at Heartland.

Prove me wrong!

I'd rather be unemployed than dating an air conditioning unit. A noisey one to boot. Bet it snores. If you ever get that far.

Met everyone in France have you John?

Just because :von: is Francophobic everyone here thinks it's OK to prejudge an entire country?

Not at all, but in my extensive travelling around Europe it's astonishing how many times I've found myself irritated by the French.

I think even :von: has a certain level of irony in his Fracophobia. I have a dim memory that it might have been something to do with a laydeee

It's always used in interviews as a reason they've never played in France, wheras the real reason would be something to do with the fact that the middle-ranking live music scene in France just doesn't exist. Mainly because they didn't convert all their theatres into dancehalls in the 40s and 50s, like us plebs (thank god we did though!)

I'm fairly sure that was a joke (or, at least, not entirely a slur). Did you notice the second group on that list? I doubt he's met all the CorpPunks in the world (i.e, me) either. And yet you dive in to defend the French and leave me to wallow in the number two spot. For shame, Mark, for shame.

Furthermore, I maintain that I am not, in fact, dating an air-conditioning unit. An air conditioner has a function, and as such would be entirely uninterested in me.

Now, back the point...

Unwritten HL rule no.23. Never attempt to decipher a conversation between myself and Corpy. Dropping acid helps though.

Crash and burned already, huh? You must try harder in this relationship thang. I've PMd you the number for a water cooler I know. Give it go. Apparently it's desperate.

You're forgiven. This time... :P

And Johnny, you shut up! You know all the water coolers blacklisted you after your untimely departure from the workforce!

I never knowingly bought a French product for years feeling it was the duty of any Englishman to hate the French. Seeing :von: was an ally in this only served to reinforce my resolve.

I now have a French girlfriend and visit the country several times a year.

C'est la vie.

Are you actually any closer to finding a hotel, CP? Or is that a silly question to ask in the face of the full Heartland Derailment Effect?

i've been to paris -only once which was sufficient to dissuade me from a repeat visit.horrendous traffic (london x100);massively over-touristy ,like most capitals but seemed more difficult to find the less-touristy places;extremely unpleasant gun-pointing police (ok so i was standing on the unknown soldier under l'arc de triomphe but i was only 15/tourist) and the eiffel tower was bongo brown -the exact same colour that my gran's landlord had bought as a job lot and painted all his tenant's houses in.
hope that's of help! :innocent:

I watched Lords of the new church at Le Zénith back in the 80s. The French fans were chasing us, screaming swear words. One of the LOTNC guys told me, it was because of my trumpet trousers.  A classic. 8)

Still, this frightening incident didnt keep me away from visiting the "city of love" once in a while.

my last but one visit to paris involved getting completely changed in the back of a taxi under a coat. in the dark, on a motorway.

i'm proud of the fact that i got my striped tights on straight, but i did put my skirt on upside down.

How did Paris become the City of Love? Maybe it's just me, but I don't find overpriced hotels and traffic jams all that seductive.

Give me Venice, Santiago de Compostela or even Nice.

Compare the prices of Coca Cola in Paris and in Venice.
We paid 10,- Euro (sic!) for a can of coke in a café at Markusplatz in Venice. What a big hoax this place is. Millions of tourists more than in any other place in the world and lots of stinking fishes floating all around. :urff:
