Actor Michael Sheard, who played such loveable characters as Grange Hill's Mr Bronson, Admiral Ozzel in The Empire Strikes Back, and Adolf Hitler (in 5 different films/shows, apparently, including Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade) has died.

General chat seems to have as meany death threads as it does happy birthday threads, all of a sudden.
I can't really say I'll miss him because I've never even heard of him, but I'm sure he's been a great loss.

Don't worry - it's more "FYI" than a call for a national day of mourning.nick the stripper wrote:General chat seems to have as meany death threads as it does happy birthday threads, all of a sudden.

I was more interested in the fact that he'd played Hitler in 5 different films, but that's just me...

oh, first I thought, you meant Charles....
Without knowing Mr. Sheards Hitler impersonation, I find the best Hitler so far was played by the swiss actor Bruno Ganz in "Der Untergang" (Downfall)
A recent encounter with Bruno Ganz in an airplane made my blood freeze for a second.

Put their heads on f*cking pikes in front of the venue for all I care.

Don't know this one either, RIP still
And Bruno Ganz was very memorable in Der Untergang indeed
I hope he shaved off his moustache and cut his hair differently by the time you bumped into him ?

Surely running into him on a plane would be more like the start of Himmel Uber Berlin
He was much nicer in that, erm, obviously

That is a bit sad. He had a reputation for playing ogres and tyrants but most 30 somethings probably know him best for Mr Bronson, the very scary French teacher from Grange Hill. I once read an interview with him where he mentioned that when he appeared at the premier of a film (perhaps The Last Crusade), an audience member looked like he'd seen a ghost and said under his breath, "f**k me it's Mr Bronson!" He didn't seem to mind the typecast - in fact he found it quite funny.lazarus corporation wrote:Actor Michael Sheard, who played such loveable characters as Grange Hill's Mr Bronson, Admiral Ozzel in The Empire Strikes Back, and Adolf Hitler (in 5 different films/shows, apparently, including Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade) has died.

I met him when he came and switched on my town's Christmas lights about 5 years ago, and my friend tried to bribe him to go "You boy!" but he wouldn't

Sad. He also played a strangely sympathetic Dalek agent (who also happened to be a school teacher!) in Remembrance of the Daleks.
