Desktops - Windows to the soul...

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Arf... Windows... see what I did there?

What can we tell about a (wo)man from his/her desktop?

I am curious as to what my fellow Heartlanders have. Your work PC doesn't count, obviously, as they're always just boring plain turquoise or something...

It just occurred to me that my desktop reveals a certain side to my character... and I think maybe other Hlanders could perhaps reveal their hidden depths this way.

So, what you got :?:

And, humour me... GUESS what I've got. :innocent:

On my desk at work:

One PC, battling bravely to be seen amid two huge piles of newspapers. It's plain black, with six red luminous paper dots stuck to it to detail recent software upgrades. Headphones, plugged into PC. Two phones (landline and mobile). Contacts book. Notebook. Sky Sports Soccer yearbook 2004/5. Team photo of White Ensign, about to go on to a page.

Among the less obvious stuff, a large (plastic) battle axe. A football sticker of Birmingham's Olivier Tebilly, and an advert for Romeo and Juliet's massage parlour (two office in-jokes, neither very funny). Two obscure pieces of sculpted wood. A small selection of knives for fending off over-amiable colleagues. Two elastic bands (red).

At home: PC, various bits of scrap paper, desk lamp which isn't plugged into anything and is thus somewhat futile. A draw full of football programmes and (at the moment) a pile of stuff being sold on eBay (bidding closes tonight).

Thrilling, isn't it?

That's my old one. Ignore the "No Time to Cry" background. It was coincidentally drawn by a friend who isn't a Sisters fan so it's nothing to do with the song.

I'll put my current one up if I can remember my DA password.

Next to the toilet door, dear. I wasn't about to perch on a step ladder hammering nails above my doorway.

But he's still very happy in his new home. How's yours?

Both from my own photos. One in Russia, one in Westcliff.

You'll all be concerned to learn that the White Ensign team pic has been returned to the subs bench in favour of some lady bowlers from Southend. It's all glamour in this job, you know.

I have got this one on my desktop at the moment: clicky, but since you made me go to the Top Gear website to look this up, I'll probably be changing it when I see another cool car on there :D

I had this for a short time, but it hurt my eyes, as you can imagine...

Then I had the image of Ian Astbury at the beginning of the "She Sells Sanctuary" video... you know, with the hat and surrounded by dry ice, doing the oh-so-goff swirly hands thing...

But this is all to be expected... my current desktop is very different...

Does Boudicca's current desktop involve Rick Astley?

I'd be tempted to nominate a honeycomb, hopefully not in conjunction with the 80s perky pop legend.

Otherwise, I probably don't care.

Surely it should serve as a comfort in a world where Counter-Strike ability is inversely proportional to social skills? :innocent:
