Great gigs you've been to

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

.... and I m so sure about it, because that november, that I spent in the UK, the Berlin wall came down.

Would that be a causal link? You weren't over here buying an unnecessary number of copies of Wind of Change to propel the Scorps up the charts and enable them to dismantle communism, were you?

scuttles off to pitch a dreadful sit-com idea to BBC3

As for great gigs, Kenickie at King Tut's has a certain hold but that had more to do with events on the way home

And, though I blush to recall, Belinda Carlisle at Shepherd's Bush Empire was terrific and ran through a longer and more interesting set than any 80s popstrel has a right to be able to play. Some people seemed to know every word as well ...... :innocent:

Best live act I've ever seen, without question, would be Nick Cave. Seen him twice, and he's twice made the Brixton Academy seem like a decent venue.

I saw Napalm Death when they had dropped Bill Steers and got in two Californian guitarists, they were very good but I'd rather have seen them with Bill. Cerebral Fix supported BTW.
I remember nothing.

Another classic gig I saw was Jane's Addiction supporting The Wonderstuff at Brixton Academy in 1990. Brilliant! :notworthy:

i saw napalm death when lee dorian (cathedral) was the singer still...in fact the only napalm line-up i didn't see was when justin broderick (godflesh) was gittar-man...then it went silly when mick (drummer) left how can a band be the same band when there's no original members left? answer -when that band is "earache"'s flagship band and the (mis)management have f**k-all imagination (hello Dig).
Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"

AC/DC - Edinburgh Playhouse 1982 (my first gig)
Ramones - same venue - 1988-ish?
Motorhead - same venue - 1983 or 4

did I mention I like loud gigs?

Other noteable mentions must go to Alien Sex Fiend at the Venue in Edinburgh and Ghost Dance at Rooftops in Glasgow (x2), sometime in the mid 80s, included here if only to annoy scotty

The Cramps at Edinburgh Empire (RIP) - 1986 I think.

Oh, and Sigue Sigue Sputnik at the same venue a few weeks later...was a laugh

Oasis at the Barras in 94, before Definitely Maybe was released, that was pretty special, as was Irvine Beach the next again year.

TSOM at the Barras a couple or three years ago rocked my world, right Blast?

Echo & the Bunnymen - 25th anniversary tour 2 years ago, again at the Barras, was spectacularly good, and I'm not just saying that as a bunnyfan, it was like watching teenagers on that stage, not 40-something year olds, they were amazing! Hope they're as good this October!

...as you were!

Kosheen/Faithless at Leeds University <spits on floor>, back in 2001 or 2002.

Didn't think I'd particularly like it (went with our kid), but loved 'em.

And Sister Bliss is kinda cute, too.

...Oh yeah - The Stone Roses, Spike Island, 1989.

And I do have the ticket stub to prove it - 30 000 capacity, 90 000 reckon they were there.

In a Geeky Bird -way. Anyway, Kosheen were ace - it was about the time of their first album and Sian(?) looked rather fetching, too.

Maxi Jazz just looked like a corpse.
