in case you missed it....

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Liverpool produced the Beatles. As such, no one pays to blindest bit of attention to any other local bands except to say that they're not as good as them

True enough.

Maybe I'm just bitter because one of The Coral went to my school, was apparently a complete scally and "made it" anyway? That and they're sh*t

"The latest hotbed for rock'n'roll talent isn't hip Glasgow or chic Manhattan,"

i assume they mean Glasgow = franz ferdinand and Manhattan = the killers? or something?

Hmm.

Although I'm not keen on a lot of bands mentioned there, I am encouraged by the signs that the heart of musical genesis is once again shifting up past Watford...and I did like the reference to the Sisters, even if they didn't put in all the vital capital letters...

Congratulations to Quiffy, for hitching his cart to the rising star of The Ivories then. As the Man in the Know, is this article spot on, or is there a bit of talking up going on here?

*cough*

couldnt possibly say

truth be told, probably a bit of both. there is definitely a buzz about quite a few of the young leeds bands at the moment, even outside of leeds!! you cna feel it when you speak to people! its palpable. :D

48crash are being pestered for distribution rights from loads of european, american and japanese labels and publishing companies. their roster seems to have captured the imagination of the music press both here and abroad :notworthy:

and hell, what scene didnt benefit from a bit of talking up during its genesis? punk? new romantic? goth? :innocent:

friends of friends an' all that.

i've only actually heard one ivories track and thats a b-side from the forthcoming single, but it was quiet cool 8)

prefer the mighty black wire myself though ;D

Keep on plugging, mate!

I apologise if I came across a little cynical in my first post - I'm just very sceptical of the media, especially the Guardian, and particularly the Guardian on modern music...but then, I'm basing my judgement on the paper itself, so maybe the writers for the online edition are better.

Closeted over here in the bloody City of the Dead, it feels like absolutely nothing new is happening on a grand scale; there's good bands, but who the hell is going to take anyone out of Kingston? If you don't have floppy hair, ties, and a Doherty obsession, no-one wants to know (don't TALK to me about the damn Paddingtons)...

I'm ranting, apologies; basically, I'm pleasantly surprised by this article, more power to the North! :notworthy:

;D

no need to apologise mate, you're right to by cynical. online journos are no "better" in that respect... everyone has an agenda, and thats how "scenes" have always started. its not what you know... ;)

the writer of that "leeds music" guardian article, dave simpson, is an established guardian writer amd is actually quite involved in the manchester music scene (or so i gather). one assumes him and choque have crossed paths, as it were, somewhere along the line and the thus the article was born.

anything that encourages interest in bands that arent from london should be encouraged :D

Anything that enables bands to function and flourish without moving to London has to be encourgaged.
