Wishville

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

That's true Rain...Forums are all very much of a muchness. Each and everyone has their own fair share of rabble-rousers, flirts, pains in the ass, trolls etc.....

We're currently having a bit of a tiff over there if you want to come and join in.
I'm occasionally envious of Quiffy in that he was able to avoide (some of) the mistakes I made when setting up Wishville when he created this place.
We've never had Moderators on Wishville and there has been an unholy hullabaloo whenever it's been suggested, mainly people arguing about who can and can't be tyrusted / free speech / etc etc which generally means its down to me to knock heads together.
Since I rarely have the time and patience I tend to slope off over here until everything dies down again. Occasionally people apologise to each other but we're as clique ridden as any other forum.
Funnily enough we were talking about forum evolution at the festival the other week, how they grow like children, ebb and flow, reach maturity and then settle into dementia.
However, Wishville does have the advantage that you can swear as much as you c**t bollocking well like :D
Something pithy.

I like it here!

Sure, there's cliques, and I've tripped over them as much as others have, but it must be the same elsewhere.

With regard to thread derailment, this has been the single most enjoyable thing to track, the idea that a title of a thread can lead you to god knows where!!

God has spoken :notworthy: I do think that each 'owner' of a Forum should register a 'pick on me' poster/persona, that they control....it would save some other poor soul having to put up with intolerances and rudeness. The runt of the litter, so to speak.

@ mik - I started this thread on a one off thought but it's still going. It has been interesting because of the cross-polinisation of members from different/same forums. We can but try.

But for anyone listening, The Chameleons are fab. Really fab. Almost Utterly Bastard Groovy. :notworthy:

All of them old chap. all of them.

Although in truth it's about burned itself out for now, But, you can be sure that like festival bonfires made out of skifs and polystyrene food trays, as soon as the 'fire brigade' have stamped on one bonfire, another five have sprung up elsewhere, and before long the dampened embers will have given light, phoenix like, to another smokier, smellier fire than it ever was before

The good thing about wishville is that it's sooooooo easy to get an argument. This place it's nearly impossible.
Wishville has loads of Europeans to pick on too.

It's a sore point in England.

Some of us like to think that since we're not on the mainland, we retain our sovereignty and nationality. Not that it makes any real difference to anything other than visa applications.

no offence to the mainlanders but i must admit i don't think of myself as european -while i still have to show my passport and be treated like a potential terrorist just to get cheap beer/fags it's hard not to be aware of the very real international barrier.

anyway - i don't even consider myself to be "british". i'm english, and dare i say it,proud of it.not in a flag-waving-monkey kind of way,or with any historical pride of our imperialist past -as far as i'm concerned any country we fuked over then was no more fucked over than the poor (ie majority) of this country's population.it's just england's where i'm from;i'm not scottish and i'm definitely not welsh -and they don't want to be annexed by us either,on the whole.

Being a mainlander, no offence taken

But, to me you made a very interesting point, it mainly is because of not being in the Schengen pact you don't feel European? This is something that your government can easily solve, by becoming a part of this, open up the borders, and thus stop refusing to take part in this unified Europe...
This is a very real barrier which is 100% solvable by your government and if this is (one of) the main reason(s) for a majority of Britons not feeling European it seems to me they should do something about it, or shouldn't they?

true enough but we're in the third term of this government and no neare to it.the tories wouldn't even entertain the idea, and voting for them's not an option anyway.the lib-dems are really not doing a good enough job of convincing the majority of voters that they are even a valid opposition let alone a government-ready party....so it goes on.
