Why Doktor Avalanche?

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

I'm guessing that the first part came from the fact that it was a Doctor Rhythm machine. The second bit might have something to do with the same field of reference as Driven Like The Snow.

Failing that it's probably an obscure SF reference ;)

i reckon you're right about the doktor bit. add a K to give it a hint of germania and away we go ;)

avalanche is a song by laughing lenny cohen. its also quite a cool word, with connotations of power, rumbling, and the ability to make large mounds of earth move

i think eldritch and marx predicted the "fat goth chic" phenomena as far back as 1981

An avalanche is, aurally, a continual assault of crashes bangs and rumbles - I presumed that was the link.

The Doktor bit was explained by Motz.

Wasn't it the name of a Swiss footy referee?

I wondered if that explanation would appear here.
