Know the whereabouts of any ex-Sisters members or hangers-on? Got any amusing anecdotes about members of the band, past or present? Post 'em here...

so now we're trying to do a "1959 and all that" on mish lyrics?

good luck

here we go:

1) few led zepp-esque tolkien/arthurian references
2) few drug references
3) few cliches about love
4) few innuendoes about sex
5) bit of cliched goth imagery
6) a rhyming dictionary
Sisters:

1) Plagiarism from various authors, from Shelley to T.S. Eliot
2) Drug references
3) The usual "sex then love" references
4) Innuendos about sex
5) Bit of clichéd goth imagery
6) Normal rhyming, or bad attempts

Oh Dear.

Wayne is probably the best and most accomplished guitarist the Sisters ever had. That said, two captains on one ship is not going to work. And it didn't and never will. His style suited what Eldritch wanted to do at the time while his production and songwriting skills came in handy. Since then both musicans have developed radically different styles (one more edging towards EBM the other rock/folk/dance).

The spiteful nonsense was obviously after the split with Wake (rsv) being a reaction as well as This Corrosion. None of the other Mish tracks really deal with it. To be honest, Adams is probably more bitter about the whole affair then Hussey. In that first year the Mish used it all to their advantage and got some good copy out of it. It brought them a better negociation position with their record company as their profile was already high. The initial name had to go - not in the least as there were too many associations with the Sisters and calls for Temple of Love. That finished with the new name. As did Adams & Hussey's contract with WEA.

Eldritch's issue wasn't with the name as such IMHO - more with the money (jihad) and the publishing rights I'd say. If Hussey & Adams had been allowed to put a record out they would have qualified for the advance. That was rightfuly Eldritch's money. So both got out of it what they wanted. Eldritch a contract with Warners that he had to get out of by the end of 1997 and Hussey & co a 7 album deal with Phonogram which they fulfilled by the start of 1994.

Neither of them has a permanent deal at the moment.

hussey said in an interview once that years after the split he went to a sisters gig and was "summoned" backstage to see von;who basically said the same thing (though with wonderful arrogance) -"you were the best guitarist i ever had play in my band"
and he was bloody good ;at playing and writing -"Marian" could be held up as an exercise in songwriting simplicity/brilliance.but that wasn't enough for him ;he should have had the grace -like Mark did- to accept that working-lyrics for a track would be just that.
surely if you accept that you are fairly uninspired/uninspiring as a lyricist you aren't going to insist on your lyrics taking precedent over those of some one who you admire as a wordsmith?

undoubtedly -however von insists that they had all agreed that they would not use the name "the sisters of mercy" post-split (a name which really only him and Marx had the right to use without the others IMO);and because the mish initially tried to obtain advance/publishing rights by claiming to be TSOM (sans von) no doubt riled eldritch badly -not least the stupidity of assumoing he hadn't already copyrighted it.

I often wonder how much of the post-split bitch-fight was real and how much was trumped up in the music press to get both camps publicity for their new projects.
The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.
