James Ray reminisces...

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

  God, the Almighty. I spitted half of my tea over the keyboard, when I found this on the net:
Not wearing undergarment under one's outer clothing is known in American slang as freeballing (or freebuffing for females); going commando is also used for both sexes
This trend shows that not everybody considers underwear essential for hygiene, especially for modern people who bathe every day.

There may be sexual motives: with underwear as the final barrier to sex, not wearing it at all is a powerful turn-on for many people.

Without sexual connotation, it may be preferred by some nudists in situations where a certain amount of body coverage is required, as the state that comes closest to nudity.
Believe me Quiffi, I HAD ABSOLUTY NO IDEA.

Indeed. :von: :notworthy:

Now we know that if a Mr. Whippy van ever happens to pull up outside a venue where Mister Ray is playing, it's vanilla all the way... ;D

Please invest in some sensible thermal undies though...

One question I would put to Mr. Ray is...

Is this odd, conversing directly with a bunch of hardcore fans across the internet?! Not that I'm ungrateful, far from it, but it's such a rarity to have that level of contact!

And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"

@ Mr. Ray: Thanks for the interview. :notworthy:

Questions which I would have asked had I had more time over the weekend:

How much did you keep in contact with the personnel on the Sisterhood project? Any contact still with any of them?

How different is your recorded voice from the way you hear yourself when you talk? When you started out as a musician, were you used to the difference? How does voice voice on releases compare to your normal conversational voice? (Atypical questions, but I mean them sincerely.)

How did you hear about Heartland? From Matt? Has the reaction to your arrival here been what you anticipated, more enthusiastic, or less than expected?

I have always wondered who sung what, but I didn't want to ask that question as it seemed like a question to which everyone who does a slight bit of research could find the answer :)

But indeed, whose vocals are on which songs on Gift?
Styles are a lie.

Well, as far as I've read:

Jihad: "Two five zero zero zero" was Patricia Morrison. No idea who shouts "Jihad!"

Colours: James Ray

Giving Ground [RSV], the bits of vox at the end of [AV] and the album version: James Ray

Finland Red, Egypt White: Lucas Fox

Rain From Heaven: Main verses were James Ray, choral part was James Ray, Patricia Morrison and Lucas Fox. And maybe Alan Vega, I'm not sure.

So, Mr Ray, who sang what?

Sorry for the mega thread necro but I've been looking for this...
