just listening to oporto 91 - sound is "strange", but the performance of gimme shelter is incredible - always liked that one in that period.
so as i have a lot of gigs i have never been listening to, i would like to know your favourite renditions of it - it would save a lot of time for me .
the ones coming to my mind immediately are:
lorely 92, birmingham 92, ny 30.3.91, oporto 91.
thx,
j.

I was never sure about the guitar solo in 91/92 - though in its initial form it was a groovy and very rocky - I think the solo was much shorter at Leeds Poly in 91, though maybe I'm thinking of the 90 gigs.

Bricheno used to do a bit of guitar-trashin' on it... liked it very much. When they played Gimme Shelter in Hasselt, it was Tim's last time doin' the routine... great song, great cover, great guitar player, ...

I was going to say Birmingham 92 but you beat me to it. It was the introduction and the guitar solo that did it for me.jost 7 wrote: the ones coming to my mind immediately are:

most versions of it really lack power, but the some of them are just outstanding, and if tim has got a big sound, its one of the few tracks which really got a kind of improvising-on-stage character.
i also never got a clue what lead the sisters to perform gs at the lorely longer than in any other show - which i discovered only later, although i was there - still one of the biggest momenst i have seen live.
@ andrew: yes, birmingham 92 would be the one for the island.
