BitTorrent help

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I know how to download stuff from BitTorrent files and so forth, but how do you upload stuff? How do I go about starting/seeding a new torrent?

Which site? I know some of them require you to have A Certain Ratio before they'll let you start new uploads.

I've never done it though, so I'm not sure.

Your client may have a "make torrent function",if not download Completedir 1.0.1 from this help page.
Put your files in a folder (ie crystal palace 31-7-93) then put that folder in another folder (ie new torrent). The torrent site will have an announce address, copy this.
Run Completedir, look for your new torrent folder and click ok.
You will have created a torrent file in the new torrent folder next to your file folder.Go back to the upload page of your torrent site and fill in the details. On dimeadozen I hit submit and it does the rest.Sometimes you may have to wait quite a while before someone starts downloading from you.
Any problems or if you are uploading a Sisters gig let me know?

Pat---I'm no expert ,it just works for me.

Cool; thanks everyone.

I've got BitTorrent client for Mac; I see the "create torrent" menu option, but it asks me for a tracker. Which one should I go for?

If I make a torrent of a DVD's ripped AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders, can PC users just burn that to a DVD that will play in set-top DVD players? (I know that it works on Toast on a Mac.) *Ahem... not that I'm violating copyright law. Oh no.*

Fook it I might not bother  Too much like hard work...

The real interesting thing here is: What is it you are trying to share with the world?
