Another puzzle

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

What kind of answer do you want? :)

Seems quite obvious to me, moving the green one to the right (and down) and change the blue and the red one...

No, but the overall triangles are the same size and shape, so how is it that the bottom one has the hole?

The red blocks should be replaced by the blue blocks....so imagine them lifted.....then move the green blocks up one row and three blocks to the right and then *swop* the lifted red and blue blocks and land them with blue on top and red at the bottom to look the the top diagram?!?!

but all the shapes aren't the same, ye've got two triangles and two polygons, so, all 4 aren't the same, yeah?

This puzzle looks suspiciously like the aftermath of me re-arranging a cupboard to <ahem> tidy it .

Same tins/packets/boxes etc. But I'm buggered if I know how to put them back in and close the door

The pieces are the same and although they appear to be the same triangles, they are not. The individual pieces are arranged in another way so that you get the hole.

Just look at the big hypotenusa of pic A and then compare with pic B. You will see that the 'cuts' with the rectangular grid are totally different in places.

The three corners of the triangle are in the same place, but the hypotenusa is not really a straight line. In Pic A the Hyp. sags a little, while in pic B it bulges a little. This is enough to make the 'hole'.

Nah.

I may have explained the puzzle rather badly... but Izzy has the answer. The red triangle and blue triangle have slightly different angles.

This is a more exaggerated version:

No worries on that score

I'm fully aware that I have absolutely no talent for teaching. It's a lot harder than the tabloid press like to think.
