Lighting the candles comments

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

I recently bought the excellent Lighting the candles DVD at a m*****n show last week. I was watching the special features DVD yesterday evening and just want to share the comments Wayne makes about his Sisters period :

1. During the biography section which he tells with the help of photos, there are 3 photos shown during his Sisters period including a full band photo. He says that on the contrary to what many people think, he had a good time while he was a member of the Sisters.

2. The bootleg section show several live bootleg recordings which he reworked in his studio. During one the songs (I think Wasteland) he says that he and Craig left the Sisters (amongst other reasons) because Andrew didn't want to tour and play live a lot while he and Craig loved to play live.

3. Also during the bootleg section when showing a fantastic live performance of Wake, he says that this song is dedicated to Andrew Eldritch but does not say why.

Just wanted to share that with you all so that you don't need to buy the DVD, which I on the other hand would highly recommend !

firts of all, the whole package is a very sympathic one. it gives the feeling of a band who cares of what they are doing, and about their fanbase. thats appreciated.

the gig: parts of the gig are really good. in fact i had the pleasure to listen to the original material as it was aired shortly after the gig in german tv. and the sound on that one was really crap. they have done a great mixing job although it might not sound as it actually did. always thought rob was by far too heavy, but in the polished mix its really good.

the comments are really great. watching the bootleg section with comments is really a pleasure - as bruno said. its about things we all discuss now for years, and its good to hear the band's own thoughts on things.

so, i am still waiting for the next one to arrive. would be great to have andy doing some comments in whatever way that might happen, even in russian or hebrew.

I bought the limited edition single. I feel happy.
The DVD? Well.. maybe I'll get it, maybe not.

But it'd certainly be worth it. But maybe I should get more of their albums and singles first.

Definitely worth it Dark. 2 DVDs and a CD for around £15 (£14.97 from Music Zone, for example) - total running time just short of 6 hours.

Has there ever been this much praise for the m*****n on this board?

Yes, I bought the DVD. The gig on DVD 1 is pretty good, interesting interviews, an extra audio CD and some nice extra content on DVD 2. It has obviously been put together with alot of care. Its a shame that there isn't more focus on past members, the definitive line up is still wayne, mick (who has to be one of the best drummers of alltime, the difference he makes is amazing), simon and craig. I guess Wayne wants to look forward and he seems really happy with the present line-up.

I wonder if Von knows that it is out? I think the idea of a Sisters DVD was rumoured about the same time as the m*****n DVD, 2003(?). It shows what can be done.

I bought the DVD too and was the 2nd Mish item since G.O.M that I took.
As Bill Hicks and everytbody told is well packaged and nice put together but not done for old fans like me. Most of the features are from last years and sincerely not interesting for me. The cd audio is from last year tour as well but at least there was all classic songs. The main gig is last line up that sincerely i didn't know. I bought it just for the sisters shots that are superb (especially the sutdio one) and unseen and for W. Hussey wife that unfortunely film every time but not appeared.

And now my idea :

SISTERS OF MERCY SCATTERING THE ASHES 2DVD + CD

1) Live at Royal Albert Hall 18.06.85 (without dreadfull effects)

2) promo videos 84-85 - OGWT - Tv apparences

3) audio disk complete John Peel Session

4) Bonus tracks (from Eldo warehouse)

I bought and watched it yesterday. Pretty good. But mainly the old stuff.
A nice way to present a biography, discography etc.

I do not like the new single (Light the Candles).

It was the first item since Carved in Sand I bought. When Masque came out and I heard it, I gave up.

Noticed that they released an album in 1995 called Neverland? Interesting name.

The new single is "Breathe Me In".
"Light The Candles" is, I suppose, the CD equivalent of a b-side. Or an extra a-side track, perhaps:

1) Breathe Me In (radio edit)
2) Light The Candles
3) Breathe Me In (full version)
4) Butterfly On A Wheel (live)
5) Tower Of Strength (live)

I fully recommend the last track to everyone. 9 minutes of pure bliss.

On the bright side, he's probably given Von a chuckle, which might just grease the rails...

You are right. "Light the Candles" has been written especially for the DVD and is an extra track on the "Breathe Me In" single.
My mistake.

If the Sisters were ever to release a DVD I would want recent material and recent footage. The only footage of Von should be the short hair years, 91 onwards. The Albert Hall is so long ago, maybe some footage as a bonus?

I think the current, well 2000-2005, line up is the best that we have seen. They rock, big time!

I would love to see footage of Summer, outdoors, with a huge light show! Then release it as a live single, number 1 in the charts, world domination! Thats the way it should be. Looking forward to it.

This is probably the best thread we've had about the Mish yet. I wish I hadn't left all my Mish vinyl at home, I have an eerie urge to listen to Serpent's Kiss.

indeed quite nice DVD.
like said before I like the way its presented. it shows Waynes care for his fans ...
I'm not a expert on the Mish (only have g.o.m.) but maybe its time te change all that and get to know more of there songs.
-as for the sisters DVD.
I don't think Von would ever be as 'open' to his fans as Wayne showd us here. and there isn't alot of band to talk about (actually a bit to much to talk about  ) so a recent live show would be nice.
I would be more interested in how Von thinks about the past years and about us fans. though not likely
