OK, what is she looking at?

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

It's not the fact that there's no love that bothers me... but there's no lust either. The guy is essentially shagging something that doesn't want him any more than a vacuum cleaner would, so why he doesn't just save his money and stick to a combination of dodgy mags and his Dyson is beyond me.
B, the important part for the lust of the customer is the money-thing. He pays for her lust, so to say. That puts him in a (rather momentarily) position of power over that woman which is a turn on for many men. Furthermore, by paying, she has to willingly submit to his desires, which a "real" woman he could pick up in a bar probably would not do first hand.

Another thing is, did you ever hear about men, that like to shag women they find particulary ugly and/or shabby? That's another strange splinter of "love". :urff:

Sure, something has power over her... but is it really him? It's his wallet, and her need for what's in it in order to fund her drug addiction, most likely. Obviously some deluded fellas can convince themselves for a few minutes that it really is them who has the control, not the Mean Green.

all of the above points (re. prostitution) are valid in many instances i'm sure.but sometimes it is as simple as (from the male view-point) paying for a service;albeit an intimate one (by "intimate" i don't mean in an emotional sense).
when it's legalised, licenced and health regulated, prostitution is no less than a service industry -it just takes a certain mind-set. i've (socially!) met a couple of non-drug addicted ,highly paid call girls who are proud of exploiting men's weakness for sex. and by highly paid,my mate sarah in london used to "entertain" rich businessmen and MPs for no less than £500 for a night. often she wouldn't have to even have full sex;as far as she was concerned it was more demeaning waiting tables for a pittance. the other girl (who's name isn't important 'cause "daddy's" a high-up civil servant) used to get flown by request to exotic places and paid a fortune by her clients, most of whom were rich married men who weren't getting it at home, but who could not afford the scandal of an exposed affair.

as for men,it can often be the lack of emotional attachment that they find convenient . fit looking woman; no courtship involved; no strings ;straight to the sex;no bitter recriminations...job done.

I understand all that, the appeal of the lack of emotional ties and so on (don't think it's an exclusively male thing even)... just think it must - or ought to - puncture the ego to know that the woman basically does not find you attractive, and if you didn't have to bribe her, she wouldn't.

I'm not really one to get all teary-eyed about women's exploitation in the sex industry - just angry, disappointed and disgusted, as much at them as the men who "use" them. As I see it, provided they haven't been forced into it, they make their own choices and to paint them as "victims" does all women a disservice.

I watched a programme about the brothel industry in England on TV a while ago and they had a bloke on there who had taken it upon himself to design a website which contained reviews of every brothel in the country as he worked around them. He was totally bloody sleazy and disgusting, and getting the girls to pose for photos for his website - god he couldn't believe his luck. Gross!

There's a hell of a lot of projection that goes on with men who go to prostitutes, I think. While a hand is a hand is a hand, many desires / fantasies / frustrations / complexes can be projected onto someone who is going to be quiet because she needs the money.

Although I found the red light district in Amsterdam disturbing and sometimes upsetting, there were also rich pickings from a people-watching point of view. You can see the traces of history, nationalism and all sorts of other complexities in the different 'choices' men from different countries made. American men seemed mainly to flock to East Asian women, Japanese men to blonde Dutch-looking women...I think power and conquest have a lot to do with these transactions. I think violence is there too, albeit not always in obvious ways.

The Ibis in Leeds is on the former site of a brothel. (Not that they've re-used the building, the brothel was knocked down to build the Ibis.)

Black and white building, aye that's the one. IIRC the name began with a W?

You mean near Maxi's in between Graham's Kitchens and Napoleon's Casino? I thought it was called Mr Brown's.

Me neither; steered clear until the thread navigated its way out of those dark waters...

Clearly, B is rolling her eyes - - at the filth, depravity, and shocking amounts of happiness abounding on the board. Somewhere in the future lies some mournful poetry...
