I don't know what I thought of James Ray's set - it had WTF moments and good moments (guitary bits). What a nice bloke though for asking Quiffy to introduce him to all the Heartlanders

yep, a very nice man indeed.

not sure he'd appreciate us telling everyone that though. do terrioble things for his image

The reason I have not put the James Ray gig out to weed is because of people like you who expect everything for nothing.... If your so interested in James Ray why were you not there...oh yes school the next day and mummy wouldn't let you go.

Try standing in front of Mr Ray with a camcorder for 50 odd minutes like I did or standing there with a mic on your bag strap leading to a mini-disc recorder in the bag for 50 odd mins like Mrs S did...oh no it's easier for you to say that these must be weeded...grow up little boy and join the real world.

Sorry to all the other people on the site who has read this little rant but he makes me so mad

Time to take the tablet and go to bed.

Sure, state your case over the bootleg (and I happen to agree with your "You don't get something for nothing" outlook), but for f**k's sake lay of the patronizing BS. Maybe he doesn't deserve a weed, but it's hardly is fault if he's unable or not permitted to go to the gig. I don't remember emily getting flack for "oh yes, work the next day and Mr S' boss wouldn't let you go". It's the same thing, try and have some perspective

Yes but Ems has not come on here saying that these CDs have got to be weeded coz she says so. Why come on here and mention he has nothing to trade for these gigs so therefore it must be weeded?

It can't be a logistical impossibility to get to Leeds from Lincoln if Debaser can do it, all right she has a car but there are loads of us on here who travelled by train / bus etc etc to watch bands when we were his age, I know I used to. You can get the Train to Leeds by changing at Doncaster.

Well i think you have it more or less right. I think "challenging" would be a better word than intelligent.

It seemed to me a very personal piece and by that virtue an awkward vehicle for that event. Not my cup of tea at all as ive said elsewhere im a simple man and like gigs to be full of songs rather than pieces with a heavier artistic leaning.

Still a bit confused,

Mmmm, yes. Some paper aeroplane moments weren't there...

I was feeling pretty lightheaded as a result of lack of food and sleep, so the white noise and epileptic-fit-inducing lights were less enjoyable than they might have been. And the thing about me is, I like songs, and people on the stage to play 'em.

Having said that, when I was asked for by Mr. Ray (

), on my way out the door, and he pronounced my name wrong (BOOOO-DI-CA!), I found him to be a charming fellow indeed. With a groovy coat which I hadn't quite noticed through the copious anmounts of dry ice.

thought it was great, exactly what i expected to see, if anything a slight compromise with the real songs. pity he forgot to dedicate edie, but... L.T.W

can't wait for the next project if permission is granted.

rhombus were cool and sg's voice really good, but i didn't quite get the smurphs. sorry

no, just after all the raving i've heard about them i expected them to be better. they didn't sound too much like the sisters and the singer didn't sound or look much like von, so i couldn't really see the point

still, all helped pad the night out

For what it's worth, I dug the Smurphs. The whole concept of tribute bands usually leaves me cold, but they were really bloody good. The in-between song banter (and heckling!) was worth the price of the evening alone...

As a side note I'm not quite sure what you expect me to do in order to look more like Von, drop six stone in weight and about eight inches in height?

As to sounding like him, well there are limits to how far any impression can go. It's quite hard to judge from this side because it always sounds just like me and nothing like Von when I hear it, but I think that's inevitable.

"the point", if there is one, is for us to have fun. And hopefully to entertain people. Since we all had fun and at least some people seemed to be entertained I'd say we did our job.
I'm not quite sure what you were expecting, but given your response I guess it was more than a little unrealistic.

I for one was impressed. At certain points I thought you caught it brilliantly.

Which left me imagining someone doing Von impressions in front of the mirror with a hairbrush

... I assume it must have happened at some point!

Bless you! I shudder to think how long I've spent singing those songs. No hairbrush though... I've never owned one!

Believe me I wasn't fishing for anything there. Naturally it disappoints me to hear people saying things like that but at the end of the day it's all about perception.

Having spent several years in A Certain Tribute Band with A Certain Person known to some here (and not terribly well liked, can't imagine why

) I've seen precisely how far people's desire to hear something colours their expectations.

At the end of the day Sid does not look like

, Paddy is no Wayne (or Gary) and Ian is deffo not Craig and they would be the 1st to say so. Sid does look a lot better with a ton of dry ice round him

I go to watch the Smurphs to a) see a good live band b) meet up with some mates and c) SG's heckling but as you say Ez, each to there own.

Looking forward to a dark November night in Crewe.
