Just heard from someone that Joe Strummer has died...
...at fifty, for God's sake...

Wasn't a great fan of the Clash, but nevertheless, another punk hero bites the dust...
R.I.P...

NO WAY!!!!!

After a truly awful morning in town I come back to this........................
he was for me one of the most charismatic performers I have ever seen...I don't think I ever saw him when he didn't give over 150%.
death is never easy but at Christmas....

Aw man.
I love the Clash.
All the legends are leaving one by one.
That's not good, but think of all he achieved - if I did half as much cool stuff as him before I died I'd be pleased.
Respect.

Something great was lost forever 12 months ago. The Clash were the last gang in town.
"And when you start to think about death, you start to think about what's after it. And then you start hoping there is a God. For me, it's a frightening thought to go nowhere".

My abiding memory of this truely awesome performer was not with the Clash (which I gratefully saw twice) but was him at Hull Tower in about 1986/7ish. He wouldn't stop playing, lost his voice but STILL he wouldn't leave the stage - I loved him before but I would've died for him that night .

It's hard not to feel sad but let's celebrate his life and his work and remember him for the iconoclastic figure he was. One of the few who never sold out. RIP Joe.

Loki was never worshiped as the other Gods,
Which is quite understandable.

In the late eighties I used to see Joe Strummer a lot in the Pub. I wont pretend we sat down and had a pint together but after a while he used to greet me like we were mates. He was so cool.
There's a website you can go to to pay to plant a tree in his honour, somewhere in scotland, costs about nine quid. when I've got time to search it out, I'll post the details on this thread for those interested.
