Gift

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Is Gift still available on CD? From my search I'm thinking not.

As far as I can tell it's been deleted. You'll probably be able to get it second hand fairly easily though.

Never found it on CD (second hand nor new), asked it in the record shop once if it was still available somewhere (in Belgium that is) and the database thingy they checked with had never heard of it, so second hand it'll be I guess

I've got it on tape. But to obtain it, you'll need to go back to Woolworths, autumn 1990, and buy their one solitary copy before a much younger and slightly spottier MrChris comes in to buy it.

had it vinyl for years (bought it 2nd hand circa 1989).

never saw it on cd at the time... however, borrowed it from a mate a few years ago and copied it.

seems to be fairly hard to come by on cd these days, even 2nd hand.

Come to think of it I haven't seen the CD on eBay of late. It's one I never actually got around to getting on CD although I have the vinyl, naturally.

Had the vinyl since day one, (bit of a surprise when I got it home but that's by the by) cd's usually go a bit dear on ebay. Cheaper on Amazon market place from memory.

(A bit dear, there's one at 31 quid with a week to go.... it is the original release though)

 Agreed; not an unpleasant surprise though.

£31 is a bit steep innit?

a pm to you driven.

I had a few copies on vinyl, down to one now. For a cover that is virtually just black it's incredibly tactile...

The CD is listened to most days in the car.

I found my vinyl last year on some recordfair.
@Obviousman: I seem to remember the cd version was been sold in some shops around here, (fnac, free recordshop, ...) but that was years ago and they don't have them anymore.

Well, I never saw a cd yet, so

There's a vinyl in Vinyl though, for whoever is in Antwerp and interested. Don't know what it costs but probably somewhere around €15

You make me feel old. I remember buying mine from HMV where "The Sisterhood" had its own artists divider. The CD wasn't lumped in with The Sisters of Mercy.

I wonder if anyone collects record store artist dividers?

I have yet to own a copy of Gift that doesn't have a scratch during Rain From Heaven! I have 3 copies on vinyl.
Never got round to getting the CD. There was one in Andy's Records in town for years. They wanted 16 quid for it! Wish I'd got it now.

Well the last one that sold on ebay went for £6.50 so it's around.

<edit> My mistake, that was vinyl.

Cripes, I must've been lucky. I'm sure I bought my Gift cd from HMV a while back. If anyone wants a copy, seeing as it seems so hard to find, PM me.

Gift was originally released on cd in 1989 (RTD1331.684.1), and then re-released in very limited quantities by Rough Trade on vinyl and cd in 1993 (RTD1331684-2)

I got my "Gift" CD in mid 90s from German Infrarot mailorder. In 2000 I saw it in a record shop of Leipzig as well.
And as I have said - and I'm still confused by this fact - there's Alan Vela written instead of Alan Vega on the sleeve of my CD :| :? :?:

Sounds like you've been 'ad there. But you probably have an extremely rare fake.

I hope not. I gave my copy to a friend of mine a few years back for the price of a pint and a packet of fags. I was dead skint back then.

Sounds familiar. I got mine about '97 or '98 from Isolation Tank, over the Net. They were also selling a few boots at the time, so it got me thinking that maybe my Gift was a fake. Not too bothered since, if it is indeed the case, it's a very good fake. I was extremely pleased to find it at all.

Now up to 35 quid with two hours to go. Place your bets.

I predict £42.76
