What dreams mean

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Anyone got knowledge on this?

I had a really weird dream, about lotsa stuff, but mainly an owl. It was looking at me kinda spooky. All white face and kinda brownish body. The dream just left me with a weird feeling. There was a man who owned the owl, he gave me the creeps.

(No, i had not just watched twin peaks :P )

If you are an owl (of the fire walking variety :wink: ), then surely it should come as no surprise that your dreams are populated with your fellow feathered friends?

I have just come round from nodding off myself, and I had a dream where I wanted a fox for some reason. This horrid little boy had a baby one, and he kept coming up to the windows of my house and saying "take it, it'll come back to me, it doesn't like you".
He'd plop it through the window and I'd try to cuddle the little thing, but it would jump back out.
Eventually I poured this giant cannister of cold water over the little bastard in my back garden, and threw it at him :twisted: .
Didn't get the little fox tho' :( .

One of my recurring dreams is that my teeth fall out. I see that... s**t, one has come a bit loose, and before I know it more and more are coming out in my hands, all blood and everything :urff: .

I'm generally not a believer in dream interpretation, but the common explanation for this one makes me think that there might indeed be something in it. And if the explanation I have heard is correct, I think I'll continue having this particular dream for some time. :|

Can't help, but if some amateur psychologist steps up to bat on this one, perhaps you could have a go at mine...

I have a regularly recurring dream (at least once or twice a month) where I'm away somewhere on an extended holiday, or business trip, or work placement. When it comes time to pack up for the return trip, I've got so much stuff that I either haven't got room in my luggage or (more commonly) run out of time and have to leave before I've finished packing.

Oh, and I often have dreams with unstable or broken staircases.

in my opinion dream interpretations of other people's dreams are bollocks. why should dreaming about your teeth falling out be applied to everybody as being a sign that your uncertain about the future? to some people it might mean that- when i dream that i'm pretty certain it's because my teeth are falling out. :roll: and how do dreams that are actually about your teeth falling out manifest themselves.

in every other respect dreaming is fuckin' awesome! i like the way you can actually dream about doing something you've never done and when you actually do it it's just how you dreamed it would be! -e.g. taking off in a plane springs to mind as does taking pcp :innocent:

Oh, I know staircases! In my dreams usually they look ok, but as soon as I step on them they're incredibly steep and slippery... :roll:

As to dreams in general - I just love them! But regarding interpretations: I think they're so highly personal that one has to know a person very well to interpret their dreams. And I don't believe in general meanings of certain "symbols" you can find in books. Instead I think the most rewarding path to understand one's own dreams is to follow the meanings particular things in these dreams have for you (like the owl, the fox, the being away and the amount of stuff you suddenly own as much as wether or not you actually want to pack and leave again), and the feeling a particular dream leaves you with.

I used to have repetitive dreams when I was due to be travelling somewhere the next day, mainly of seeing the train at the station and no matter how fast I ran I could never make it before it pulled away, or of the driver on National Express not letting me on because I had forgotten my ticket despite me pointing out that we would be driving past my house and I could nip in and pick it up :(

Ok, let's see, falling out teeth could mean you're afraid of loosing the power over a certain situation. You feel that something is gliding out of your hands? Freud linked dreams about falling out teeth directly with masturbation. *ähem*. I wouldn't go that far though.

OK, I know I'm asking for it but hear goes... I'm not prone to nightmares at all and I generally find dreams very enjoyable. Mine are often long, very intense and atmospheric and far more interesting than real life! I don't have recurring dreams as such (more's the pity) but I do have some recurring themes. Transport, in particular trains, feature a lot in my dreams and I do tend to associate these dreams with progress of some sort in my life. My dreams often take place in what feels like a parallel universe - the locations are familiar (sometimes recurring) and feel like they're all part of the same city. It sometimes feels like Glasgow and though the locations don't exist in reality, aspects of Glasgow do spill into them (like Glasgow buses - the transport theme again!). I seem to know the way around this place and although it's not real, it seems very familiar and I feel at home during these dreams.

Some crackers I've had include a multi-level dream that was 3 dreams deep and one so vivid that when I tasted something disgusting in it, I woke up spitting all over my pillow! Dreams enable my imagination to run riot and I'm very glad I have good ones. I used to have a friend who claimed she could interpret dreams but she didn't know where to start with mine. :D She claimed that dreaming of cats meant imminent death. Well, I've had enough cat dreams to kill off everyone I know so I was pretty skeptical about her interpretations. She also said that dreaming about s**t (don't ask) meant money was coming my way!! Funnily enough, that turned out to be untrue as well. And, of course, there are the occasional dreams that were so good that I'm extremely pissed off when I wake up and realise it didn't happen afterall. :innocent: I really should get a life...

Do you have the feeling that you're not archieving what you want/deserve in your life? You stand still, no progression at your work or social/love life? You obviously don't have to answer the question to me. It's just for getting a start in thinking what it could mean.

I know it sounds shallow, but dreams are shallow. :P

Nutshell. Though change "losing" to "lost". And "afraid" to "certain". :|

Quite honestly, though, I'm constantly amazed by how un-disturbing my dreams are, considering my waking thoughts. It's probably the only time I get a bloody break and something amusing actually happens.

I've always had corking dreams - incredibly daft and surreal, and usually quite vivid as I'm a shallow sleeper. I seem to recall posting a thread on here a while back about one where I was in Bananarama and berating them for their inclusion of another new member who I didn't think was "talented enough to be in the band". :lol:

just the usual nightmare about how after a HL do ,having no alchohol,no fags,dying for a kebab and desperately wanting to dance for some reason :innocent:, i'm instead transported to an enormous white building with the pigs and victims of violent assault everywhere,talking to a bunch of drunk goffs for what seems like forever. :lol:

I haven't had a bona fide recurring dream for many years, but there is something that occurs frequently in my dreams...

I'll be talking to someone, and then I want to say something but I just can't get it out of my mouth. It's not so much that I've lost my voice; rather, it's that I'm aware that a herculean effort will be required to force the words out, and that I'll be left feeling exhausted. Sometimes, I'll still try to speak at this point but always give up because I'm losing the battle and just feel too tired to continue.

I've not dreamed this for a few months now, ever since I started solving some of the problems / obstacles in my life. Prior to that I had come to the conclusion that (if it meant anything at all) this feature of my dreams was some expression of inability to get my point across and effect the changes I wanted. Perhaps I was right, although I do remain skeptical about this whole business of interpreting dreams.
