Now I know how to say " I am between a Rock And A Hard Place" in Latin...Izzy HaveMercy wrote:Bene, cum Latine nescias, nolo manus meas in te maculare.
Inter saxum et locum durum sum
(Note, I modified that slightly from the text on the page, which read "Now I really am between...etc.".
Thereby demonstrating tha I can in fact speak Latin.
I did get an A in my Higher for it, so .

Being brave is coming home at 2am half drunk, smelling of perfume, climbing into bed, slapping the wife on the arse and saying,"right fatty, you're next!!"

I always find it very funny the pronunciation of Latin differs so much from country to country and is taken very strictly, like anyone has ever heard good old J. Ceasar speaking...
I remember back at school when all of a sudden they had to change from Sezar to Kaisar (or the other way round) one of my teachers said Ah, yeah, they must've found his secretary's dictaphone somewhere
That seems awfully much like Dutch words, all of them...James Blast wrote:ye missed oot 'bricht'scotty wrote:It' a braw moon licht nicht the nicht.

I know what you mean.
I studied Latin for 6 years, and we all thought we had the pronunciation right.
Then I heard Fox Mulder quote some Latin phrases on the X-files
Also the big speech writer Cicero (keeh-kuh-row) was pronounced Cicero (see-suh-row) later on in my educational career...
So is it Kermit de Kikker or Sermit de Sisser then?

I never bothered to study Latin so long, did it for one year, but couldn't stand the guy so I went for more interesting things
Kermit de Kikker, I'd say

Oh, they didn't even try at our school. We just pronounced them as they would sound phonetically in English, with our lovely Scottish accents!Obviousman wrote:I always find it very funny the pronunciation of Latin differs so much from country to country and is taken very strictly, like anyone has ever heard good old J. Not only that, they probably do mean exactly the same things as you think they mean . I don't know Dutch but I'd hazard a guess...

Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"
