Just a thought...
I'm one of those that often checks out the 'birthdays within 7 days' thing.
Sometimes it occurs to me that there are a lot of 'double' or even 'triple' member names on there.
For example, today I noticed 'Reptile' and 'Reptile.de', both the same birthday, both the same age, but a different joining date.
Maybe us, forum members, can point this out once in a while, so that the mods/admins can start sending an email and/or pruning the member lists a bit?
I guess a lot of these are around here, and it is just excessive data, no
Just a thought,
IZ.

it is a good idea -for example panzerenforcer had at least three accounts on top of his bogus "bradsaleyn" one that i noticed.perhaps people could also let on when they have another account that they forgot the password to or whatever, before creating the one they use. mine was body dyslexic -feel free to trash that.
Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"

What about the photo gallery? Black Horizon anyone?
I've just deleted loads of old PM's too!

I would leave BH in the gallery in case people want ot know what he looks like at gigs.
I like the idea too. In the past, I have passed on a bunch of duplicate usernames which I have come across, but I think that QB has had other priorities. I will see if I can find the list which I made earlier. Go ahead an post what you spot here. I doubt that it is much of a priority now either, but it would be nice to have a central list in case the database later needs some trimming.

My former nicks were 'multiple orgasms', 'big schwantz' and 'stallion'.Petseri wrote:I would leave BH in the gallery in case people want ot know what he looks like at gigs.

You can delete those.
I went far beyond them since then...

Not to post something worth reading, in any case
Back on topic, I will keep an eye out for double names. First ones I spotted were 'Reptyle' and 'Reptyle.de', as stated before...

What I found several weeks back:
Who can forget reyrex_99, reyrex_999, and perugoth? (There may be other incarnations in the meantime.)
stevey666999 only posted the one lengthy, fecal post , which has been binned long ago already. Can we flush him/her too?
We have Kattatonia and Kattatonia_x (with remarkably same birthdates and residneces). The former username has no posts assigned to it.
rhedengren and rwednesday match up with the former having no posts yet.
dee and dee902 appear to match as well.
AKda and Al-K-Da registered back to back (with one eBay sale post combined ).

Of course, we have to be careful with non-posting members...
There ARE a lot of lurkers here, and it is the people's rights to just read the forum.
I think deleting people that never posted something is difficult. Better send them a mail first before deleting them. There are a lot of these anyway.
And BTW, does Quiffy approve of my idea in the first place? It IS his forum after all. Don't start meddling without his consent...

I suggested binning non-posting users a while back, but QB declined (for the sake of the lurkers).
Duplicates might be a different matter; but to be honest, I doubt they're going to take up too much database space are they? After all, it's only likely that someone registered twice in quick succession either (a) to spam, in which case they'd get binned anyway; or (b) a typo in the username / password, (or forgetting one of them) making it impossible for them to use one of the registrations.
I would guess that it's not that big a deal.

Interestingly enough, I clicked on Al, who has a birthday today. The name did not look familiar, but he has 33 posts to his name. When I clicked "Find all posts by Al", though, I get "No topics or posts met your search criteria". Deleted posts somewhere? Like those tucked away, invisible, on pages 167 and beyond in the General Forum?
I think that there's a phpBB mod which lets you delete users who don't log in for a specific length of time (say 6 months), which might be of more use than killing every account with 0 posts if you want to protect lurkers.

isn't it astonishing how easy it is to gather eager denunciators for something that even in the most broadening sense can't be considered a crime?

Am I the only one who thinks "member pruning" sounds rather painful?
