no -definitely not.his taste in football teams is the only opinion of his i have ever majorly disagreed with. and von's dislike of all things scouse is documented. the mersey was one of the bodies of water that he said he would have ideally liked the floodland cover to have been -after it had covered liverpool.

That's Wayne. There's pics of in a Un**ed shirt and obtuse as he may be sometimes there ain't no way a Liverpool fan would do that.a.r.kane wrote:I meant Eldritch - he's always supported Liverpool.Karst wrote:I think a.r. kane means Wayne.
Chucking another log on
Wayne is from Yate - a small town north east of Bristol. His Mum still lives there but I haven't spoken with her since 1993 - I rember asking her "Were you ever worried that Wayne was in the Sisters of Mercy?".
She gave me a lift into Bristol in her car for a gig once.

If that is the case then Eldritch is definately not a football 'fan', which makes me happy in the knowledge that he is still insisting, with his actions, on treating everyone (his fans included) with contempt and holding them up to the levels of fools. As football is a sport for the illiterate masses then I hope to be seeing him in a Wigan or even a Newcastle shirt, soon.ruffers wrote:That's Wayne. i don't feel as if we're treated with contempt...disinterest maybe but that's up to him. even if he holds us all in contempt that's his affair. nobody forced me to be fanatical about his music and want more than he wants to give. he doesnt have to like me just cause i'm a fan.a.r.kane wrote: he is still insisting, with his actions, on treating everyone (his fans included) with contempt and holding them up to the levels of fools.
which brings me to my question: why do you feel so mistreated?

I don't feel mistreated. Im not a fan as much as an admirer of some of the music and songs he and his associates have produced over the past couple of decades. I do sometimes feel let down that a band/idea with so much promise and originality (within the bounds of rock&roll cliche) should just end up loosing it's way, so blindly stumbling from one thing to the next until it almost dies on it's feet. I feel agrieved that Eldritch should have let this happen - too much too soon, perhaps.
I was reading a Heartland fanzine and was reminded of his general dislike (in a Machiavellian way) for people and how he does like to create an air of confussion about himself - as opposoed to mystique - an administer of misinformation which I happen to admire more than, probably, most of the music. Don't get me wrong, I admire the chap, but I do know that he professed to following liverpool fc during the 80's.

I don't think it's fair to form the assumption that someone's unpleasant from what one might read. You could even put a few facts about someone together and still not have an accurate impression.DeWinter wrote:As has been said some think in order to prove themselves uberfans of Mr Taylor seem to think they must claim to despise Hussey, even though they have probably never listened to his music..
He was a pretty good guitarist, yes, his lyrics were a bit silly, but then again "It's a small world and it smells funny,I'd buy another if it wasn't for the money" is pretty feeble also.
As for him as a person,he's likable, with a good relationship with his fanbase.I'm afraid, its a case of the inferior musician having a a superior personality.Taylor seems(from what I read) to be an arrogant, and fairly unpleasant man.

Well, that impression isn't simply from reading old NME interviews which I agree could be misleading. The official website, which I have to believe was totally under his control makes him out as sneering and arrogant, with a decided tendency to point the finger of blame at everyone bar himself.I just assume he's a deeply insecure man.Driven wrote: I don't think it's fair to form the assumption that someone's unpleasant from what one might read. On the other hand,That Guitarist doesn't rip into Eldritch whenever he's asked about him,he's more complimentary than anything else.Eldritch is always ready with a snide comment.

i would argue that arrogance (being "aggressively assertive" according to OED) doesn't go well with being deeply insecure; nor does having such a high opinion of yourself that you don't even begin to question your own culpability if there is someone else glaringly at fault. being guilty of both these things i can assure you i am in no way insecure, deeply or otherwise.DeWinter wrote:Well, that impression isn't simply from reading old NME interviews which I agree could be misleading. The official website, which I have to believe was totally under his control makes him out as sneering and arrogant, with a decided tendency to point the finger of blame at everyone bar himself.I just assume he's a deeply insecure man.Driven wrote: I don't think it's fair to form the assumption that someone's unpleasant from what one might read. as for "snide" comments that's a different thing altogether.
it's called "wit".

Nope.Wit is amusing, sometimes outright funny.Eldritch's comments aren't either. They strike me as a little pathetic. If Hussey can put the past behind him,Eldritch can.

Oh I don't know..If you were truly secure in yourself, would you feel a great need to tell others how brilliant you are?Sounds a lot of the time like he's trying to convince himself.Doesn't Pat Morrison tell a rather sad tale of Eldritch unfavourably comparing his talent and looks to Mr Vanian?
Anyway...as for Wayne hating, very little of it seems to be based on anything he's actually done that discreditable to him.If you don't like his music, thats no great reason to dislike him as an individual.I don't like Kanye West's music, but I don't spend my time insulting him.I only have to assume some people think they'll get some kind of Eldritch brownie points if they help carry on a one-sided fued between two middle-aged minor rock stars..

granted -and they probably have put the past behind them.von's comments re hussey are thin on the (giving)ground these days... .it's 20 years since all that kicked off.
as for his comments, witty or otherwise (matter of taste), i wouldn't describe them as being snide: hes always seemed quite open about who he's insulting and why.
not a great need, perhaps...but i certainly have no problem with blowing my own trumpet in an arrogant fashion. there's nothing wrong with self-promotion even when it's bordering on conceit.DeWinter wrote:If you were truly secure in yourself, would you feel a great need to tell others how brilliant you are?
you're probably right - but the reasons i have no time for hussey (dislike is too strong a word) are these:DeWinter wrote:i only have to assume some people think they'll get some kind of Eldritch brownie points if they help carry on a one-sided fued between two middle-aged minor rock stars..
he wasn't satisfied with being a bloody good guitarist and co-songwriter in a bloody good band so left to form dreary hippy outfit with ridiculous lyrics and wussy tunes -thus resulting in the end of (for me) the definitive sisters line-up (and for a while the sisters full-stop).
he slagged eldritch off (and therefore the sisters) while desperately living off of their following and reputation.
he went back on the mutual agreement to not use the name The Sisters Of Mercy (which as well as being out of order showed that he had no respect for von's brain as von had of course already copyrighted it to himself).
he bragged in public that he had slept with ian astbury, heavily inferring that they had had a shag- whether or not this is true i don't care -it just showed him up for being a bit if an embarrassing knobwand.
that's all.

And maybe the above shows that you're taking Hussey a little bit too seriously here...
