..I was wondering if anyone could recommend any Japanese goth/industrial/dark Visual Kei bands to me.

My silly sister forgot my birthday, and told me to tell her what to get me, and I realised my music collection is lacking in Japanese music.
I like what I've heard of Moi Dix Mois, 12012 and DÃ©spairsRay, but their music seems either expensive or hard to find. Or both.

If the band has released a CD that can be found on Amazon or Play, that would make it especially easier.

I also found a song by a band called Eve Of Destiny, which sounds brilliant.

The only prerequisites for these presents is that they only cost about Â£10-15, and that they're not too hard for my sister to get hold of.

I've heard some Malice Mizer. They sound quite good, if a little soft at times, but I've not heard any of Gackt's solo.
Dir En Grey sound quite good too. I appear to be somewhat easy to please

Gackt's solo stuff is apparently softer and poppier than Malice Mizer, so you don't wanna go there (although you might, if you know what I mean...

).

I'm not into the all that J-rock/Visual Kei music really myself, I prefer to look rather than listen...

you could go the whole hog and get some Merzbow or Acid Mothers Temple.

Not really goth I know, but the the only Japanese bands I can think of. At least the only ones I know!

I listen almost exclusively to Japanese music these days. None of it could be considered goth by any stretch of the imagination though.

I’m not a big fan of the current trend of Japanese music. Listening to The 5,6,7,8's is like listening to a half-arsed Birthday Party album with high pitched squeaky vocals replacing Nick Caves growl.

I consider Visual Kei to be the epitome of style over substance.Done very well,but to be honest,not much more artistically integric than BoyZone in the grand scheme of things.I dont quite understand why a bunch of miming pretty boys is considered valid in Japan but not the rest of the world.
Although,Gackt is gawwwwwgeous...

Haha, I've seen a few Gackt interviews. He's a funny guy. Very dry sense of humour similar to our Von.
Most of the Japanese stuff I listen to is pop. Stuff like Hamasaki Ayumi, Utada Hikaru, Kahimi Karie, Morning Musume, Speena, Otsuka Ai and some more rocky/punky stuff like GO!GO!7188 & Shiina Ringo, plus some of the older stuff like Yamaguchi Momoe & Pink Lady (1970's), The Peanuts (1950's/60's) and even some Enka.
I saw Melt-Banana play at Joseph's Well recently. They're not really my thing but so few Japanese bands visit this country that I thought I'd go anyway.

Absolutely true. From what I've read, the music isn't really considered "gothic".

I think the reason it gets branded "gothic" in most "western" places is because of the imagery in the songs, how the band members dress (and what the style is called: "elegant gothic lolita"), or just because it sounds weird to most people. But again, from what I've read and the little I've listened to, the music itself doesn't really fit in with what's traditionally considered "gothic music".

And even though the dress style is called "gothic lolita", supposedly it doesn't have much to do with the western definitions of "gothic" or "lolita".

I'm a moderator at a forum where tons of girls are into this music and style, so I hear about it all the time. I don't know much about the bands/people themselves, though--I only listen to a bit of Malice Mizer. The bands I usually hear mentioned again and again are: L'arc en Ciel, Malice Mizer, Dir en Grey, XJapan, Moi Dix Mois, and Psycho Le Cemu; and as for people: Gackt, Hyde, and Mana. Erm... I could give a long list copied from what some friends have said, but I'm afraid it'd take up too much space, and I'm not sure what's more j-rock and what's more j-pop.

In the US at least, J-pop/J-rock CDs are nearly impossible to come by cheap. At least, I can't find the ones I want at a cheap price! A friend recommended http://www.yesasia.com , which is the cheapest I've found.

X-Japan's "Blue Blood" is amazing. They've got a "best of" too which is nice too.
If you like them, you might like Hide as well... don't have much of his stuff, but "pink spider" is a fantastic track.

Not at all. You can tell me which CDs would be best.
I've got a good selection of bands here, many of whom I've heard stuff by. Any recommendations of specific albums by any would be of great use.
