Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. But this year I did discover Shriekback, Johnny Thunders, and Charles Manson's obscure album Lie.

I just bought "Anthems" by Laibach yesterday and was mightily impressed. I only have "Opus Dei" other than that, which was acquired about 5 years ago.

The songs from WAT sound good... Can you recommend one of their albums to listen to next?

So, I'm saying, for this year... Late re-discovery of Laibach, a return to form from Rammstein, and a band called Near Meth Experience sound quite good from the (very dodgy) bootleg I heard :D

Anything pre Opus-Dei - Untitled, Nova Akropola etc - tends to be a lot harsher, more minimal and involves a lot of Slovenian and political diatribes

Personally I would probably say try Let It Be..

Fine its full of Beatles covers but by heck they don't have make their best effort to get Lennon rolling in his grave! :lol:

Failing that the NATO Live album is bloody excellent and covers a lot of their career up to 91..

WAT is a great album - one of these few (and I MEAN few) that I can ever listen to straight through without skipping a track :notworthy: .

NATO itself, the studio album, is also very good - and very funny, if you find the idea of "The Final Countdown" being growled in a poker-faced Slovenian accent funny. Which you undoubtedly must ;D . Also has a fantastic cover of DAF's "Alle Gegen Alle"... you might have thought it was impossible to beat the original BUT IT IS!

Also, Let it Be is a good one. Particularly if you're familiar with the Beatles Album (one of my earliest musical purchases)... but even if you're not it barely matters. No-one else does cover versions like Laibach - making the most innocent lyric take on an entirely different meaning, funny and bloody alarming at the same time.

All in all a good (musical)year though i ll never forgive Mozz for not including "speedway" on the Earl s court live cd

Yes, I've heard all of those cover versions you mention; they're all on "Anthems." And you are quite right... They sound great, are very amusing and are quite scary if you stop to think for a minute.

Their treatment of Queen's "One Vision" I like in particular.

I'm off to buy WAT... 'cause it's the only one available in HMV Hong Kong.
