Yes, and I know one lucky sod who's going...
But just as I thought, do they play UK? Do they buggery . I'll just have to settle for playing "Crossfire" at ear-bleeding, brain-shredding volume instead .

Nowt on these shores? If I had the funds I might have been tempted.
I'm bloody excited. Hope my ticket to their 12 Dec gig is still valid
(I booked it one night through my internet bank account and got a reply I'll get the ticket at the place, hope I didn't see it in my dream )

Great version of a great song (love both this one and the original as well)Mr. Wah wrote:The best Die Krupps song is still Fatherland... Sisters Of Mercy Remix
But I have to add they have many great songs.
Everyone who have any file sharing program - I suggest you to check Die Krupps' "To The Hilt" video
(or come to Skype when I'm online - which will definitley not happen today)

It's quite bizarre I thinkpikkrong wrote: I suggest you to check Die Krupps' "To The Hilt" video
Libby, do you know what's the most funny - or most spooky? - thing about Die Krupps gig in Estonia?
I tell you.
The last bands of the festival, just following to each other are... Loits and Die Krupps
I really hope there will be now problem, fingers crossed.
Because I have never been at Krupps' gig and a friend of mine said that their live in Sweden (quite recently) was probably the best gig he has ever seen And he's not a fan of Die Krupps.
So I would hate the possibility if Die Krupps would cancel a show or something
A day before Krupps' concert me and my friend will be among those who have to show them Tallinn, maybe we should warn them about Loits... that they don't wear their uniforms because they are real ****s.
I remember in 1994, during a festival in Tallinn, there was a real fight (I said 'real' and that means fists and feet etc) between Napalm Death and Russian metal band Korrozija Metalla because those Russian guys called themselves fascists.
I tell you.

so, did Napalm Death kick them damn Russkies asses?

I think it was quite a short fight but can't be sure. I wasn't there. It means - I was at the festival to see Iggy Pop but I took anly very brief look to both of the mentioned metal bands. Not my cup of tea. Saw a short snippet of the fight later from TV news. As I said the reason was the attitude of the Russian band and the fight itself was started by ND guys, that's almost all I know about it.James Blast wrote:so, did Napalm Death kick them damn Russkies asses?
PS I still don't think posing in uniforms of soldiers of the third Reich is NOT the best thing a human being can do. Even if you have explanations.

The very same here (even if those guys wear those uniforms because some Estonian guys fought in such uniforms against Soviet occupation - people nowadays should know more about other meanings of those uniforms than those young guys in 40s who had seen only Soviet terror against civil people... And I'm bloody proud that one of my grandfathers escaped to a forest when they wanted to force him to wear that kind of uniform and the only time he had fought was in Spain - as a voluntary against fascicts). Now I can say that Die Krupps gig was really great!
And Jürgen Engler is a top person.
Even if had said to him that Estonian national food is exactly the same (unhealthy ) stuff they have in Germany he was still interested in it. And about local culture, nature etc...
Some pictures taken by my camera (again - you may have to press on "refresh" button to see them) are here... one more warning - because I was in the very first row I couldn't do pics from the gig myself, one young lady who had a photo pass did them with my camera but, as you could see, she used my camera the first time... anyway:

And, of course, I couldn't stop myself and asked Jürgen Engler about Eldritch. He said described AE as a very nice person, who makes jokes all the time and not only cruel ones
Once he (Eldritch) was asked in an interview about collaboration with Engler and he said he's ready to do it again (or something like that - as we know he has remixed and produced Die Krupps stuff). Then JE sent him an e-mail (or something like that - anyway, asked him) if he's ready to work together. The answer was positive: Yes, of course, Jürgen, let's make a musical where you will play Mary Poppins.

Cool

Yes, very briefly... really not my cup of tea. But Die Krupps guys saw them moreBrideoffrankenstein wrote:Cool

And said later that thay would come to Estonia again as soon as they are invited
Which doesn't mean that we didn't have a discussion about some uniforms they had seen from a picture but which Loits didn't wear this time. Although I don't think there's anything to do with n*zi ideology but idealizing those men who fought against another aggressor - I didn't enjoyed being a role of devil's advocate. I don't think wearing those uniforms is a responsible behaviour nowadays (those guys in 1944 had no choice and due to them the independence of Estonian republic was declared between Germans escaping and Soviet army coming - just de jure, just for less than 24 hours, just in the capital but it helped some Western states to acknowledge continuity of Estonian indipendence for decades; but now it's 2005 and a rock band could know another meanings of those uniforms). And again - Die Krupps men acted in a very nice and reasonable way - to avoid any stupid sk*nhead, who could come to see 'German uniforms', loafing around and ruining the feeling of Die Krupps show, they just asked to change the bands' order.

Good - glad any trouble was avoided. I have to agree with you that they should really know better about the uniforms
Again - I'm not very familiar with Loits (well I think it was their singer I once chatted with, being drunk at Laibach's afterparty) but... maybe they even know well about Estonian men fighting in those uniforms and I have to say that those (at least most of those) men didn't do crimes against civil people nor didn't sacrifice themselves in the name of N*zi ideology, it was the time when real Estonian army didn't exist anymore, in the first year of Soviet occupation (just before German occupation) most of the officers of Estonian army were sent to a "training camp" where no one returned alive.Brideoffrankenstein wrote:Good - glad any trouble was avoided. But it's a question of responsibility for me - if you have put on that uniform today, many people understand you wrong, among them those ones who fancy a real n*zi thing So I'd like to ask - why, god's sake you show your patriotic feelings this way? Now, when Estonia is again an indipendent state? I'm afraid the answer has something to do with rock music's militant substance, it's a big boys' thing and even Eldritch, being intelligent, educated, left-wing and anti-nazi (the latter 2 characteristics are valid about myself as well, by the way, yeah, only the latter ones) likes sometimes military references. Maybe it sounds cynical but it seems to me those Loits-guys have just realized that those uniforms look more powerful than those clothes in which real heroic Estonian men fought in the War of Indipendence in 1918-1920 against Germans and Russian Red Army. But they could realize some other things too
(Even if they used those uniforms only at one photo session - but I can't prove it, the only thing I could say that I have seen their single on which artwork was a photo of Estonian army from the days of Estonian War of Indipendence and this time the singer looked rather like Motörhead's Lemmy - anyway, Die Krupps' "Stop Fascism!" sign is far more grateful to me.)
And I prefered to chat more about Die Krupps, particularly in this thread

Did you give him all this high-minded historical gubbins then or were you too plastered?pikkrong wrote:Again - I'm not very familiar with Loits (well I think it was their singer I once chatted with, being drunk at Laibach's afterparty)
I think you hit the nail on the head there. It's a matter of aesthetics, and one could definitely appreciate the militaristic aesthetic without being a nazi, or even fond of the military itself. I'd describe myself this way.pikkrong wrote:I'm afraid the answer has something to do with rock music's militant substance, it's a big boys' thing and even Eldritch, being intelligent, educated, left-wing and anti-nazi (the latter 2 characteristics are valid about myself as well, by the way, yeah, only the latter ones) likes sometimes military references. If you are attracted to the harsh, brutal sound of rock music, it makes sense in a way that you might be attracted to the visual equivalent. You may also tend towards a slightly harsh or brutal worldview (despite his lefty politics, I think Von does in his way), but it doesn't necessarily mean you condone genocide.
I myself can appreciate that the Nazis had some smashing gear. Yes, it is quite powerful and striking looking. The other connoations are intellectual -I have knowledge of what the wearers of those uniforms actually did so I wouldn't say wearing them was the best idea. But it is intellectual. If you didn't know they were Nazi uniforms, they would be rather impressive.
