Elite/Oolite

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Elite was a great space game from the days of the BBC Micro and the Speccy. Nasty wireframes, but I spent days on it, killing Thargoids and trading in Narcotics.

Some years later, in the early 90s, it was ported to DOS in the form of Elite Frontier. The wireframes were still crappy, and Narcotics were still the best way to get rich quick.

Oolite is a freeware port of Elite for Linux and Mac OSX. They've finally filled in the wireframes with proper graphics. Time to stock up on Narcotics...

Ah Elite.......

All of my mates who had Beeb Bs and speccies (still hate the "keyboard") would thrill me on the long walk to school with tales of drug running, inter stellar combat and raising your criminal status.

In fact, me best mate still plays his copy - on his original BBC-B!!!
I, of course couldn't have Elite, as I "only" had an Atari 800 (cracking "real" keyboard though....)

Surely this would win the award for Game Of All Time (for those of a certain age), well that or Sensi Soccer, or SpeedBall II.

Thanks for the link - I will download it (finally after 20 years I can play it!!!)

:notworthy: Thanks for that. I've been downloading BBC emulators and all sorts trying to recapture the Elite experience. ;D
