GOSSIPS.....

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Me, too - and I'm a girl! Also, if you substitute *ahem* for "be" in the above statement, that would also be true. Sick, eh? ;) :innocent:

Ditto. That's *exactly* how I feel about him, now. If only something that freakin' cool were possible... *Sigh*

I think if you met him you would be disappointed. I have yet to see an interview with him where:

1. There hasn't been an attempted at some form of intellectual one-up manship (which, let's face it, is much easier to do with an overseas interviewer- hence the number of those). Or

2. He has displayed even a modicum of natural warmth.

Now, you might say that that is part of a persona deliberately created, but I don't find that a credible line given that it has been going for twenty years.

To me, AE is a reasonably bright chap who has so-so music ability (which happened to appeal to me) and who jumped on a good band wagon at the time, and has very effectively maximised a return from it. I expect meeting him would be a bit of a let down for you and, for that matter, him.

Well, first, to give an interview is a lot more different than to meet a person in real life.

Second, what makes you think he wouldn't like us?

Third, what makes you think we wouldn't like him?

See, it's this "army of Von-he-is-a-monster worshipers" that drives me mad.
This idea that meeting another mortal would bore him to death... Well, then he must be bored to death already because everybody he knows is a boring mortal.

hummmmmmmmmmm, if i can just add my 2 centimos...

i think the thin line between eldritch the persona and taylor the man has become very very warped over the the last 20 or so years, but the massive quantities of vodka and anphetamines will do that to a person, and looking in the mirror doesn't really help anymore...

as the the protection of the family bit, is it that, or von's public and not so public antics (sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll, not to mention the public and not so public outbursts violence over the years...) that have made them turn thier collective backs on him i wonder.

not so much the pissed up comedy uncle, but more of the dangerously drunk old relative that gets punched in the mouth for coming on to the dangerously young third cousin (once removed)...

i think meeting him could/would/should be interesting, if you engage him as a person and not a godhead and slaver all over him like a wanton hussey...

but then that's only my opinion ;)

Yes, but one thing is a sex rock god another thing is a old junkie believing he is the best. Let's hope - only hope - the last isn't true. :(

You mean, it's the family that seeks protection from him, not the other way around? :P
Hehehe, I can understand that.

But still back to the family issue, namely the supposed actor brother, wouldn't it be funny if we all know him and we don't know about it? As a fan, I believe that's cruel to us, really.
It's bad enough that we don't have pictures of Eldritch as a child. Yes, as a child. Like in Kurt Cobain, Marilyn Manson. What kind of person doesn't like to show the cute little thing we (well I) used to be?
That's what puzzles - amongst other things.

We call it misinformation in my country unless you know what you're talking about!...

I didn't get the part about Hussey, but yes, I'd like to talk to him like two normal people would, not to mention we supposely have at least one favourite band in common and we could discuss that... Unless he deslikes the Sisters of Mercy, of course. - NAHHH!

In many ways this debate is pointless. No one will here will ever truly know who Eldritch/Taylor is. From personal experience, I rather doubt even he knows who he is e.g. there's the man I like to think I am, there's the man a stranger is the street assumes I am, there's a man my work mates know, and another I show to my family.
I'm not saying such a person doesn't exist, but in my experience it is a very rare individual who can hold a mirror up to themself and see every single fault, every petty, stupid, ill thought out action. Some of us try harder than others, is all.

It's all quite Zen, really.
Will the real Andrew Eldritch please stand up?

Like the man said,

you bought a mask, I put it on
you never thought to ask me
if I wear it when you're gone
get real
get another

The ultimate riddle is whether or not he can take it off...

I wouldn't be surprised.
