Smash Hits

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

what a proud moment that was - buying smash hits in the summer of '84 & acquiring your (the?) 1st ever glossy photo of the sisters - (from the body & soul video shoot?)

as a mark of respect for the demise of said publication, please ensure that the hat "bought in las vegas for $25" is worn by the singer at the anniversary gig.

"the americans are great".

....am i allowed to use the word "festering?"

I've still got some of my Smash Hits from '86-'87, including the one with That Guitarist reviewing a bunch of singles by Spandau Ballet, Fuzzbox, Beastie Boys, New Model Army and The Damned amongst others. Absolutely hilarious!
Also got the one with a review of the Sisters' Wake video in it. A scan of it is in the HL gallery.

I loved Fuzzbox! On a recent-ish release of various odds & sods & demos they included a couple of bootleg tracks I gave them, lol!

It seems Wayne loved them too, as he voted them "single of the week" IIRC!

There was something slightly Cheeky-girlesque about her, don't you think? Oh - just me then.

And that's why they split up. Originally Fuzzbox had no "lead singer", they were all equal and at gigs they often swapped instruments so everyone got to have a go. Then when they disappeared mid 1987 and reappeared in early 1989 their record company forced the band to change, including making Vicky lead singer. Too much power and all that, basically putting her in a position of power caused them to fall apart, and caused good friends to fall out.
