difficult to believe

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Good to see that being an "inter-stellar sex god" hasn't harmed his molars, though - can't see any fillings up there, unless they're the porcelain type. Anyone know if he flosses?

Are you kidding? Judging by some pics I've seen, he definitely belongs in that 'Book of Bad British Teeth' seen on a Simpsons episode years ago.

Cripes, somebody give Von a sandwich.

I want to come out in NYC rocking a Mets jersey, with Darrel Strawberry's old number on the back.

True this, the front teeth are in a pretty bad way, judging from the Under the Gun video, but I was really referring just to his molars
The plan seems to be Nevada Smith's at 7 on Monday night - see you there? I'll be the one with the bad british teeth...

The more bad British teeth, the better. And I bet Von has some porcelain/clear action on those molars. No way he brushes every night.

Can this mean that he lives in the "Ciudad Condal"? He's always said that he lives in a sunny place.

What a funny thing to talk about, his teeth :) Anyway, i'm just commenting because it's funny how different people's perceptions can be. i think his teeth are perfectly normal and fine, and cringe in terror when i see all-white "text-book" pepsodent smiles (this trend has spread to Europe from America where the trend has obviously enough been created by the gods of globalisation and economic growth).

And i am willing to bet a substantial amount of money with anyone that Von hasn't got any porcelain or some such stuff in his molars.

I'm pretty sure he's always advocated the SM58 for live work and an Audio-Technica for home use. Somewhere on the official site?

Not looked at the official version, but makes sense Paul.
SM58 is the "default" vocal mike. Cuts out sibilance and boosts the bits required..you all knew that anyways.

The SM58 is undoubtedly a classic live vocal mike.

Found it:
Von wrote:Microphones: for live work I have a Samson wireless unit. The transmitter has a Shure SM58-type capsule, but we've had problems getting the particular high frequencies and transparency required, so this isn't the regular capsule. Even now, we have to choose between being loud (and my vocal sounding horrible) or being quiet (and my vocal sounding like it should). The problem is not feedback onstage - it's feedback between the microphone and the main PA speakers when the high end is boosted sufficiently to convey the nuance and intended perceived pitch of the vocal. At the moment we're pursuing the quieter-but-better policy. I was getting too tired of having a boomy and muddy vocal which I couldn't hear above the guitars anyway. The overall live experience might have been more powerful, but the me part of it it wasn't quite me.

No offence to Big Pete the mixing engineer: it's my fault for not being able to sing as loudly as anybody else.

For recording vocals at home I use an Audio-Technica AT4033a. In a studio I would probably use the local Neumann. Either way, the name of the game is to ditch the whole mid-range and most of the annoying low-mid. There's nothing useful between 200 Hz and 4 kHz. I'm undoubtedly singing too much of it, to compensate for the inevitable bias of headphones. (I like my BeyerDynamic DT901 headphones better than any other pair I've ever heard.) Certainly the vocals sound much better, and much more like I thought I was singing them, when the vocal track is eq'd to massively boost the very top end.

If the microphone's not naturally silvery or papery-sounding, one has to boost the top end even further. The Audio-Technica is pretty good. It usually goes through a TubeTech MP1A valve pre-amp.

I rarely need to mike up a speaker cabinet, but if the Audio-Technica sounds too papery I've got a Shure SM57 and a Shure SM58 clone which we use as all-purpose rehearsal microphones. I prefer the 57 for its top end.

As stated, almost all venues use SM58 as the standard vocal mic, just like they use SM57 for amps and drums.

Shure is just a really good brand, and I use them myself for recording purposes (SM57Beta, but only for recording. This mic is good when you stand very close to it, so a bit awkward when used live...)

at least we are not talking about football shirts now :innocent:

AKG 747's for close vocals (assuming no ambient noise) are best too.

So what's the chances of Von in a Leeds shirt with "10 Hulse" on the back at the Leeds gig, or a "6 Ferguson" in Glasgow..?

<Doesn't hold his breath>

Sure beats that Manc shirt at the NEC

He'd probably wear one with Miller on the back just to slightly keep his scum tendancies.

That photo is quite disturbing because he is dressed and looks exactly like this guy on the bus who was high on god knows what, climbed all over people’s baggage, chucked a bottle out one of the small bus windows, threatened a man, told the bus drive to stop the bus, jumped out the bus in the middle of nowhere, and literally hopped off into the sunset.

Surreal experiences are why I ride buses.
