Thank You! Tribute

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Finally found the 'Thank You! A tribute to The Sisters Of Mercy' CD.
Here are my humble comments.

1. Nik Page - Dominion/Mother Russia: not bad at all. A nice opener. Misses the strength of the original, but nice enuff to keep on listening.

2. Terminal Choice - Something Fast: rather good, up until the annoying techno beat coming in. What a mistake to make!

3. Atrocity - More: very weird beginning, swapping the strings intro with heavy guitars. Fer the rest, a rather heavy version. Not really bad, but not really my kinda thing...

4. Unheilig - This Corrosion: an electro version of this great song. Rather weird sounding, IMHO. Also rather flat. Duration 8.39 min. which is too long for an 'average' performance.

5. Die My Darling - Temple of Love: could've been good, but based on the '92 version. Expect a lot of Ofra Haza-soundalike female vox. All the time. Every second. Very annoying. Without these female vox, could've been mucho better.

6. Samsas Traum - Alice: very weird electronic version. Vocals are good, reminds me of Aiboforcen's version on another tribute CD. Probably nice for the electro fans. I like it, in a twisted way...

7. Warren Suicide - Black Planet: minimalistic electro intro. For the rest: sounds like Marilyn Manson (especially the vocals). Very weird. Not at all sounding like the original. Don't want to say whether it's good or awful. Cannot decide yet...

8. ASP - Logic: more electro/techno stuff, intro in the vein of Funker Vogt, mixed with crappy guitars. Silly vocals, trying to imitate Von, but souding like the next count Dracul on dope...

9. Umbra et Imago - No Time To Cry: not really an UeI fan, but I like this version a lot. Has the same emotional feeling as the original. I like the haunting keyboard vocals. Nice.

10. Frown - Heartland: very Type O Negative sounding. Sings 'hearthland' rather than 'heartland' (LOL). Not too bad, but not my favourite.

11. dKay.com - This Corrosion: I expected a lot from this 'Die Krupps' project. Very clean sound, bit slower beat than the original. Vocals are very close to the original, especially the female vox. Not bad at all. They did their best, and it shows...

12. Mantus - Marian: sounds like a crappy MIDI-file at first. Singer tries to sing as deep as Von, succeeds, but at the price of sounding very silly. When guitars come in, it sounds rather good, but not excellent.

13. Letzte Instanz - Vision Thing: a completely different song, with a lot of strings. Again, very weird sounding, but it's quite attractive. Reminds me a bit of the Shroud's version of Alice.

14. Poetus - FALAA: hilarious! Love it! Sounds like the Flowerpot Men's version of Wonderwall (Oasis). Kinda sixties with weird Moog-effects. Very innovative. Made me smile big time.

Overall:
Like all tributes: a bit of crap, a bit of would-be-Von, a bit of very weird but refreshing ideas. Nice for a collect-'em-all kinda person like me, but not something I'd put on every day...

I'm positive my mailbox can still handle the size of such files. Pretty please with broken glass and rusty razors on top.

Oh that suuuux.....sorry to hear that. I've gone through so many crashes since '98 and one would think I'd learn to back up important files but no. I tend to record alot of vinyl into the hard drive which takes much time(not necessarily effort)and I always wind up losing it all cuz I'm too daYum lazy to convert it all to MP3 and commit it to disc.
Hope you didn't lose anything ultra-important.

Nothing lost, the hard drive is fine.. unfortunatly their was a distinct smell of burning plastic, and i think the motherboard, or the processor is buggered. good excuse for buying new parts though :D

Hard drive wont work on my old backup pc, which is a pain, cos it has all my college work on. But I guess the tutors will just have to wait :innocent:
