Yesterday my friend gave me his old 3rd Gen Ipod on a try-before-you-buy basis. I normally wouldn't be too interested but seeing as I'm soon going on a trans-continental holiday I think it may come in handy. I think I may have previously hinted on this forum that I'm not the biggest fan of Macs and related products so I'm looking for advice on Windows or Linux software to make the Ipod experience a little less Mac-centric.
It also comes with a firewire cable instead of a more practical USB cable. Any advice on alternative chargers for a 3rd gen Ipod??

ipods can be connected to either mac or pc surely?i've got a video ipod and i know that can be, so i'd assume the rest could be? never looked into it tbh
i use "anapod explorer" instead of itunes too - you can copy stuff *back* to your pc with it, and it comes with the rather fab and groovy streaming-media web server "anapod xtreamer" so you can stream tunes from your ipod over the network
firewire? can you just get a cheap firewire card for the pc...
as for alternate charging sources i found a charger in dixons (over here) that looks like a multi-region travel plug, but you can plug the usb-end of the ipod cable into it and it charges it from the mains

It is PC compatable, it works fine with iTunes, but I hate iTunes. I'll definitely give Anapod a go
My PC has firewire. I'm worried about people I'm staying with not having it when I get to them and need to recharge it. I'll go past the Apple store this weekend and see what they advice as an alternative charger.

THey have an alternative charger, a thingy in which you plug a USB-lead, so that's both matters solved
Quite expensive stuff tho' I thought they came standard with 3rd Gen iPods, so I guess your friend kept those as they don't come with the latest generation

That's what I meant
Didn't know it existed for FireWire too
BTW: Make sure it fits in European sockets!
