I would say the chances of all three are pretty high.

36hrs to Toronto, then another 24 to Montreal... good stuff.

It is a slightly odd location.

I suppose if you like, depending on the weather, you could walk down St.Catherine to Papineau. That will take you through the gay village, plenty to see, and then walk up Papineau. That sounds like a bit of a trek to me.

I will probably grab a cab, or drive if I bring my car. I will most likely bring the car, so if anyone wants a ride over....

A very short review.

Tonight's show was my first experience with the Sisters on this side of the ocean (I flew from Europe to Montreal for the show).

A nice show overall, feels good to hear "Burn" again and great to hear Mr. Eldritch say a few words in French at the end. A LOT of smoke.

Also managed to see the band before the show and got my ticket signed by Mr. Eldritch.

Another great show. Certainly a different atmosphere than last night at the Kool Haus. Is it me, or did 'Burn' seem a little longer tonight?
Cheers to Eva, Andrew and Tony, and the fine folks from Montreal I met in the front row. Hope you all had a good time. Anyways, my flight home was cancelled so I am stuck in this city for another day...

One heartening thing, after reading the threads on some of the earlier shows--Metropolis was, as far as I could tell, packed (maybe 1600 people? I have no idea.), and the audience was positively manic.

The Sisters were flawless; if you like this version of the sound you're in for a real treat when your show comes around. The industrial groove machine has been polished to a high shine.

The Warlocks were a bit frustrating. I've never seen a band that could create such a great sound and then do so little with it.

Don't get your hopes up for pictures or video unless someone in the front eight rows took it. Even by Sisters standards the smoke was out of control. I took some pics with my phone from the front of the balcony and in one you can see Chris, if you know what to look for.

Funny note--my wife referred to the guitarists as "Naked Man" (Ben, who from our vantage point initially looked shirtless) and "Cartoon Boy" (guess.)

Well Philly didn't have a lot of smoke at all, but what you describe sounds fairly standard to me. I believe there have been gigs where you haven't seen much in row one Not on this tour though

My wife and I had been to four previous Sisters shows between us (okay, that means nothing on THIS board ) but those were all in bigger venues and seriously, this was beyond. Metropolis has kind of an enclosed stage and seemed to be air-conditioned, so the smoke was just staying down. It was great. Pants nothing, Eldo could have been naked for half the set.

i was in first row, precisly before and facing andrew and the security guys were sooo happy about my cam - (and a couple others i have seen on both left and right sides

Place ; Metropolis (located at the 59 Ste-Catherine East), Montreal, Québec, Canada,

Time ; local 18:00 pm (Gm -5 hours)

Event ; The Sisters of mercy (for the first time ... in either 15 years or plainly first time in montreal)

As soon as i ran out of the Berri-UQam subway station, i put on my speedy walk and almost ran down the street to the famous place. There was already a small line up that almost scared me. From the doors to the near end of the street, fans were waiting. I rushed to get an ok place in the line and while smoling a cigario to take back my breath, with a lost ear listenened to the chat around. Some guy beyond me was happy to escape his girlfriend's family supper because of the event... (what a fan !!)

At 18:40, they let ppl in. The first of course would get the better places. Some ppl already went for the main floor, some upstairs on the balcony (seats were full as i saw it when the show started) and a part of us ran downstairs to deposit coat.

They checked my camera. Professionnal cams are not allowed in the place. Mine was ok, so i hoped i could snap a dew pics away.

In less than 3 mins, i was up, on the main floor, at the bar, asking for vodka and cranberry juice. Quoite a nice mix. I walked towards the barrier that delimited the stage (with a confortable 5 feet from the stage) and as i saw a few ppl (the true fans) sitting there waiting, i joined them.

Sitting and waiting, time passed with a reasonable amount of speed after i discovered the man sitting next to me, Johan, was a nice lad with who chat was easy and fun. He also is a Sisters fan and was expecting this show for 15 years.

At 8pm, the staff ppl started to arrange or test the equipement. Cables, plugs, microphones, guitars; it was ok.

Black out. First sounds; rythmes. Screams. Lights. More screams. More lights. Smoke. A lot of smoke. The Warlocks were coming in.

I don't think the crowd expected that much of a good band to do first part. Sure they are young and not know much, but the quality of their music was pretty good. I wasn't sure about what the singer sang, but the guitars were downright awsome. Sound was PERFECT. I also have no clue why they had two drummers, but heck, crowd enjoyed themselves and the Warlocks were young rockers who set us on fire. Somewhere in the middle, the singer said something about this whole touring with the Sisters being really great. (at the word "sisters" you can imagine the whole place screamed happilly)

Around 8:45, they saluted us and we warmly applauded them. We were still under the surprise of the quality; music - sound - lights - smoke. Even if we didn't knew the, just for the light-sound show it was worth every minute.

Crowd got suddenly tighter. When we spotted the "nurse" getting a few arrangements done and skotching the "von list" here and there, we got a few more screams. But we had to wait until 9:20 for the real thrill to take us over.

In the first moments, screams were louder than the pre-recorded drums and bass. Lights were ble and there was a LOT of smoke which created a nice ambiance on the stage. Yoans and me were like mad happy in the first row, arms on the barrier, in the middle where we could have the best view.

When the smoke covered the stage in it's enterity, we saw Ben Christo arrive from the left. (I guess ppl on the right saw Robochrist arrive too) and we screamed our enthousiasm. Von came from the left too.

Clothes;
Ben ; white tank top with black pants and black boots, two silver belts; playing on a nice black guitar.
Robochrist ; all in black, wearing sunshades
Andrew; black jacket (chicago police thing on his left shoulder), underneath that he had a fluo green long sleeve shirt with some fishnet like thing over it and black leather pants.

The guitars started first and we were screaming and applauding like hell. The energy was great. The three men were in great shape. One cameraman (who was selling the band's t shirts) was filming some parts; he actually was right before me, between the stage and the barrier who kindly restrained the crowd.

The show started with First and Last and Always, followed by Ribbons, Suzanne, Something fast (or was there a piece before something fast ? ) I can't be sure.

Ben and Robochrist were playing with the crowd and the crowd responded. Andrew sang like... wow. No doubt he's a singer. Even on stage, he gives the best and it was just wonderful. Singing here and there, screaming when the word required more intensitiy.

After each song, black out and screams to get anyone deaft. Then the first notes of the next song, lights on the guitarists and andrew in the middle. Out of all the songs played, only 3 or 4 new ones were not know that well by the public, elsewhy, each one was sanged by us. And yes i sang them too. I was in the first row, (80% of the time facing Andrew) and singing with him. The first 3-4 rows were singing too and it got a nice mix. The band now knows Montreal fans are hardcore lovers.

The first break came in. They had to take their breath back too, they were the ones performing. When they came back, we were still on fire and we welcomed them back as we would with our king and his ppl. Again 3-4 songs we all knew and sang along. (I quoite liked the fact that i could sing their songs, facing andrew and smiling and being in the beat and the game)

Second break came and ended with the two guitarist coming back alone. Ben on the left and Robochrist on the right. They started to play like mad. We were hypnotized and delighted. They played with us; we whistled, we screamd, we danced, we applauded. Robochrist even played a few riffs and was leaning towards the crowd as in "do you know this one ? i know you know it... comme on guys !!!" And a few would sing and they would play and have fun as i never saw guitarists having fun with their crowd. they smiled back at us and showed us they were Really playing.
At some point, i even think i saw Rob trow his ... that little piece whith which they scratch the guitar cords... to a guy in the audience who cought it, and Rob wen to get another one.

Andrew came back. He now was in a see-through fishnet tank top and girls were quoite happy with that (me the first !!) ... They started with Temple of love i think, followed by Lucretia, Vision thing and Alice was in too somewhere. Again, it was fun to be facing Von and singing with him.

He didn't said much "one-liners". He said something in the second period, but the crowd was so loud, it got lost on stage. Then came the "thank you" at the end of part 2 and another one at end of part 3 where he did blow us a kiss and gestually gave us back our screams and applauds (something like "you are a great crowd") cause we were screaming and applauding like hell after each piece.

At the end... we were still screaming and tapping the floor in a rythmic-demanding way. More. We demanded more. But it was over. The blue lights went on and the staff ppl came on stage to get the stuff. (we still had a few more cheers for like a big more five minutes)

And sorry if this report is lousy or too "girlish" and "dear diary" like - i'm not quoite an expert fan. It was my First gig ever and i was happy beyond words. Just too see and hear them perform live before me, i can certify they are Real artists. And they play guitar very nicely (greatly actually) and Andrew sings as well live as on records. (and he's still the sexiest man alive)

The Warlocks were a bit frustrating. I've never seen a band that could create such a great sound and then do so little with it.

In defense of The Warlocks (I've been a huge fan for 4 years), one of their main guitarists, Cory Lee, decided to part ways with the band only a few weeks before the Sisters tour. He was a key part to the whole sound. The Warlocks are an incredible rock/psychedelic band with many influences from the Velvet Underground to Spacemen 3. Their first albums, Rise and Fall and Phoenix, are very worth checking out if you love swirling guitars with droning, fuzzed out, throbbing, grinding, hypnotic roaring sounds while delving into life's darkest highs and lowest lows. I've seen em live 4 times and cannot recommend them enough if you're open . . .

I was very impressed by The Warlocks and I definitely plan on picking up one of their CDs. They appeared to be very well received by the Toronto crowd!
