slightly disturbed to discover that there are -to be added to the missed-the-point pro-drummer brigade- six HLers who (at the time of writing) voted against the smoke.
Disturbed? Downright alarmed I'd say Lee
Missing the point ain't the half of it.

I'm not going to slag anyone off for complaining about the lack of
a drummer or the fog at a sisters show, but I will say that I
think some people across the atlantic (or the pacific, from where I am)
are not really "getting" the idea of the Sisters, if these
things are a problem. Perhaps these people have a pre-conceived
idea of what a rock concert should be like?
Well, I'm afraid the Sisters are not that conventional. Or normal.
In fact they are pretty damn twisted when you think about it.
-But that's the way of things in this universe; the Sisters have
too many damn wires at the back of the stage, and too much damn fog.
And you know what? I think most of us kinda like it that way.
(I know a guy called Andrew Eldritch does).

ok a few things to say about the smoke...
first for those who complain they couldn't see :von: & co for most of it welcome to my world  being an extreme short arse I rarely see much unless my bf lifts me up on his shoulders and luckily that won't make a difference here so his back is saved!
Secondly the smoke adds such an atmosphere to the gig! It makes the light show better as the beams travel accross the crowd and the whole thing really makes it so the whole venue is engulfed in the show! A true sisters experience that I wouldn't give up for the world :D

is it just me or has he gone from good looking long haired rock star to alopeesha (however its spelt) sufferer over the years :? I wouldn't knock his talent of course, he's a genius and thats what the sisters are all about.... but quite a dramatic change i must say!

EDIT: knowing my luck it will probably turn out that he has cancer or something and I'll go down as a cow in heartland history! :innocent:

Surely someone will call me superficial and all for discussing :von: 's looks, but I do agree the man was rather good lookin' at least until the mid 90s. On the other hand the last couple years haven't been particularly kind to him... :von: Who the heck called him the Goblin King just the other day ? (the name Gollum was also pronounced)

But again as the smoke shows Von doesn't care about opinions on his looks and it's not what the sisters are about. They are about the music and the experience and I salute mr Eldritch for both as I really believe he couldn't have done a better job! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Eh… I didn’t bother reading all of this, because I didn’t want to waste my morning reading five pages of people saying ‘of course there should be smoke. There isn't enough smoke until I’m choking on the s**t heh heh heh’.

I want a serious explanation here, and not just ‘it’s the Sisters. It’s what they do’. The Sisters pre-1985 did not need dry ice machines to kick ass on stage, so what happened?

I’m going to be honest here and say the dry-ice does annoy the hell out of me when used in overdrive, and I think they do use it more than necessary.

Of course I wasn't there, but if you read the sleevenotes to Some girls... you'll get a somewhat different story. :innocent: :von:

When I go to see a band live, I expect to see the band - or at least a glimpse - and I can understand why people get pissed off about the smoke.

A lot of people travel a long way and shell out a lot of cash to see TSOM, and all they get is a dry ice show with Von hanging around somewhere on stage (or in the bar with microphone in one hand and bottle in the other).

Personally, if I want a dry ice show done to the sound of TSOM, I’ll turn out all the lights in my house, open the freezer door, get out my mum’s old disco ball, and turn Vision Thing up really loud on my stereo. I’d get the same experience, except with better sound quality and I wouldn’t have to endure the experience of being surrounded by teenagers in black who think it’s ‘hip’ to just stand there and do s**t all while Ribbons is being belted out.

Strangely though, I still want to shell out loads of cash to travel up to London and see TSOM live, it’s like they have some strange hypnotic control over me. Hopefully they’ll let up on the dry ice - just a little.

The Sisters can do a good show without the use of dry ice, I’ve seen the footage (thanks lee  ).

I’ve heard excuses such as ‘they use dry ice because it’s the music that matters, not the image’. If that’s the case, then they wouldn’t do this smoke & mirrors act, because - in my opinion - it’s taking away from the music more so than if they would just go up there and play and put all their energy into it. All the smoke & mirrors thing does is distract people from the music and have them go ‘ooh, isn’t that Von a mysterious fellow. I hope he makes another witty comment that alludes to something mysterious that is probably actually all in our heads.’

Sorry if this sounds a bit bitchy, but I woke up in a grumpy mood today and it’s just a personal opinion.
