Silly questions

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Hello you darklings!

Old-timer here, don't really spend too much time on Sisters forums but have two silly questions.

1) Does anyone have a picture (old or new) of Andrew without his sunglasses?

2) When exactly did he shave his hair off and why? Any explanations? I know it got progressively shorter but then it was just gone.

I will always think of Andrew like he looked back in '85 - I just can't get my head 'round the bald, hockey shirt wearing person.

Thank you sir! Very nice! Reminds me of Nick Cave.

Not sure why "goth" is a bad word these days...anyhow, I am too old to dress like that anymore.

Would I be starting trouble asking why do so many here dislike That Guitarist?

Nice

Goth is a bad word because of the idiot children crawling around in Slipknot (or whichever band it is now) hoodies :von:

...its because, you know... we're all too old to dress like that anymore. So we realize how silly it looks. Well, all of us except Patricia...

Are Patricia and Dave generally recognized to be in some 1980's time-warp?

I really have a problem with the glory in their sound. Plus the lyrics can be soooo daft. That and listen to original Gimme gimme gimme's geetar intro. Yep, it really sounds like the Mish. Credibility ouch.

The m*****n isn't precisely bad. Bryan Adams is bad. Switchblade Symphony is bad. The m*****n are decent guitarists, nonridiculous vocalists, and not horrible songwriters.

BUT.

(Saw that coming, didn't you?)

The m*****n are like The Sisters of Mercy sans insight, sans intensity, and sans the Doktor (Note that among other people, Andrew Eldritch believes the Doktor is the most important member of the band). In the m*****n, these things are replaced by bombast, tearfulness, guitar heroics, Goth Bunny Posing, and extra notes.

This is not terribly impressive by comparison.

That said, I own "The First Chapter"; they aren't horrible. They've probably put out as many good songs as New Order (if you don't count Joy Division anyway...), and more good songs than (Insert the name of any admitted Bunny Band here).

But we make fun of them because they were once Sisters, and like Ozymandias...

Precisely. We make fun of them, we don't really hate them.
I do have about half a dozen Mish CDs myself, including the BBC radio show one which is rather good. All 80s stuff. From what I've heard they did some real crappy stuff in the 90s. :urff:
I don't have any Within temptation CD and never will.

Goth is also a bad word because of the (now sadly defunct) clicky and associated clicky.

This is an example of what happens when good goths go bad - specifically, when people go Beyond Patricia and start believing that The Crow was "like so totally the most gothic movie ever."

Is it a bad word? I don't know. I'm not goff. Never was. Never dressed like that, never will.
I just like the Sissies. Have always liked them.

The Sisters are not goff. Neither are a lot of their fans. Some are though.
That's just fine with me. It's the music that counts in the first place. Besides that you get to meet and know some nice people.

I do not like nor dislike the man Wayne. I used to listen to a few of the early albums. At that time they were fine. Later work is utter crap IMHO.

Welcome to HL.

Well, I am glad to see I was not drawn and quartered for bringing up that 4 letter word -g**h.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), the best years of my life were spent in London 1985-1990, and the Mish, AAE, Neph, Cult, Zodiac Mindwarp etc were actually in the charts and on the TV constantly. It was quiet heavenly, compared to now, 2006 US of A, where we have britney, beyonce and their ilk.
The smell of patchouli still brings a tear to my eye and a young man in leather trousers still makes my head spin. *sigh*

Crow T-Shirt...OK
Favourite Movie...OK
Bunch of Bastards...Without Question

But (and this is the important bit) you're not trying to be The Crow. Nor, I suspect, have you entered into some unholy alliance with what appears to be Kiss' make-up artist. What was this person thinking...

Well I think the way his appearance has been changing over the years is the best possible way we could imagine. Of course he's not as young as he used to be, but he's still attractive as hell, without trying to act as parody of his former self. I mean, look at most of the rock stars around his age and compare. :urff:

I'm not sure exactly when, but why seems to be a case of "less hair to comb, more face to wash" as the saying goes.

Ten years of black hair dye and then another ten of bleach seem to have taken their toll.
