25 years of büllshít!

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Seems a lot of people celebrate their 25th this years.

And so did Henry Rollins.

I went to see him yesterday on said spoken word-tour, and he was fantastic! :notworthy:

He ranted and raved for 2 hours 45 minutes about America, Bush, the first female black lesbian president ever, his trip with the Transsiberian Express and the fine art of vomiting.

He didn't even pause in between. There was no bottle of water on stage.

Also, after it was all over, I realised I had been listening to someone for almost three hours without getting bored and without looking on my watch.

Rollins rules big time, and if you ever got the chance to see him live with his spoken word show, just do so.

Henry Rollins always seems a rather angry chap, needs to chill a bit. Sounds interesting though, so how did he link from first black lesbian president to a trip on the Transsiberian Express and the fine art of vomiting without pausing or drinking water?
Did he tell any mother-in-law jokes?

I'm not expected to tell you the whole 3 hours then

His trip with the TransSibEx was because he cannot stand having a holiday. He saw he had 10 days off somewhere at the end of February, so he called his manager and asked him to book a trip to Russia...

Oh, and he's not an angry man. He's just blood-nervous. All the time.

But actually he is a big teddybear, as long as you are European. He gets fed here after his gigs, and he appreciates that a lot ;D

He comes to the UEA fairly regularly (well every few years or so) so I shall check him out next time he's in this part of the world :D

Rollins is funny and very interesting on the spoken word stuff that I've heard, pity his music is so naff :|

check out the double cd audio book "get in the van", it's a great tale of Black Flag on the road.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000E3HJY/

there's also a coffee-table sized hardback of the same title.

Had the book since it was first published, awesome read.

Missed the cassette/CD spoken word, great to know it's been reissued - I understand Hank's ad libbing on the recording about some of the stuff he read's out from his diaries, that ended up in the book :notworthy:

And the Rollins 'Shock and awe' DVD is recommended for the people wanting to check out his live spoken word performance :)

Oh! I saw his spoken word in like 1984? 1985?
It was brilliant!
I especially enjoyed family man.
Does he still do that?
Why don't you ask the kids at Tiananmen Square
Was fashion the reason why they were there?
They disguise it, hypnotize it
Television made you buy it

To me personally Mr Rollins is simply the Angry Young Man version of Angry Young Woman Miss Lydia Lunch (8 Eyed Spy / Teenage Jesusand The Jerks / Birut Slump).

She now live in Barcelona and has been ranting Spoken Word performance for years

The comparison really makes me sense.
Even though I must say you're hardly the first one to come up with that idea.
