Don't think I ever saw a new topic started for this gig...but I did find an interview with Eldritch in 'The Oregonian' (another short hit-and-run job):

Why not a new release? If not on a major label, then perhaps an indie?
I'm afraid the whole business is in a complete state right now. I've said I don't mind being competently exploited, but competency is in short supply right now. . . . We were always told in the '80s that we weren't a fit, and in the '90s, and now we're being told, "Oh, we were wrong, you were a fit after all." It's quite crazy, really.
And the 'we'll turn 'round' and around and around and around.
Anybody want to guess when the busniess won't be 'in a state'? Is it terminal? I'm guessing it's been in a state for nearly a decade...

Nice. Well spotted mate.
The business, I'd guess, will remain in a state til long after Von has shuffled off his mortal coil. Unfortunately.

Judging from the relative lack of commercial support (compared to the usual pop-drivel) any band I've ever liked (The Sisters Of Mercy, The Wildhearts, JAMC, NMA, Bleeding Hearts) has got, I'd guess terminal would refer to the last 20-25 years, at least...Electrochrome wrote:Anybody want to guess when the busniess won't be 'in a state'? Maybe the subject line should be changed, and this could be moved to the Interviews section.
Meanwhile:
When you began, did you ever imagine you'd have such a career and generate such a following?
I don't remember the level of ambition I had when it got going. But I certainly never thought that we'd be playing gigs like Radio City Music Hall, or with Public Enemy. It's quite gratifying, though, and they (the fans) are quite gratifying.
My wife was asking me the other day why it is taken as writ that Eldritch hates his fans, or even goths for that matter? I'm pretty sure I've read in "his words" often enough that he hates being labeled as goth. But could someone point to some of the rants against his "fan-base" that people go on about?
I have to admit I took it as writ, and there may be ample quotes, but I couldn't come up with anything when she asked. And I can remember quite a few nice things he's said about his audience...

Like all right thinking people, Eldritch thinks Goths are basically losers with too much makeup on and not enough intelligence to realize how ridiculous their "lifestyle" is. the "rants" by Eldritch against his "fan base" are merely the terms people we call "Goth Bunnies" use to refer to what we call "Interviews with Andrew Eldritch".
