Rumours

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Luke's trying to convince me that the Sisters ripped off the bass-line from Fleetwood Mac's The Chain, but has failed to come up with any empirical evidence thus far. Whaddaya reckon?

I knew this was going to be 'bout Fleetwood Mac 8)

Listening to it right now, quite like the bass-line bit, but wouldn't be able to tell.

EDIT: The bit at about a minute from the end could well fit that, I think, but again, wouldn't know for sure

Which Sister's song has the rip-off? Of course, it's entirely possible that :von: did some casual work for the Beeb when they needed a theme song for their Formula 1 coverage...

Over the years I am sure I have heard influences form other, recorded, material in Sisters tracks - and vice versa

I know it has been mentioned before but, to me, the backing music to Girl Alouds "No Good Advice" sounds vedry much the music to "Crash And Burn" - No exactly the same but close enough for me to notice.

That said Girls Aloud are AFAIK signed to BMG a german based record lable. Perhaps VON has a vested interest in that group - without ever getting any credit. He does need to earn money like the rest of us!

I don't have any friends, which is why I spend my life on Heartland

Hmm - you mean the distinctive, kind of ominous bassline that begins in the middle of "The Chain" and runs through to the end? If so, I quite like it, too - but I can't place why it sounds familiar. I wanna say that I've heard it elsewhere, but not necessarily in a Sissies tune..?

Shame I didn't have enough holidays left to get to the Windy City, Sin. You gonna make it to Blighty?

Doubtful, for any of the gigs.

...but mayhap at some other point in time in the not-so-distant future. Don't quote me on that, though. :P We'll see... :von:

If The Chain is that song that is(was?) used as a sortof theme for Formula One racing then that bassline was played during a version of Ghostrider (or Sister Ray?) one time. I can't remember which one so you'd have to listen to them all to find it.

I'm not very familiar with Fleetwood Mac's music and I've never heard the Chain, but people in the know should have a listen to the Nijmegen 5/6/84 boot. During Louie Louie there is a very groovy bassline  :notworthy: deep stuff...

Is this the one :?:

yep, it is Nijmegen, Doornroosje, 5/6/84 :D Somewhere halfway Louie Louie this Chain-bassline takes over.

I am a bit dissapointed I had to confirm this myself though
