The "deal" is that Andy has read some books without pictures; doing so has informed his writing. As for "getting" the Sisters, it probably does help to be a bit on the smarter side of things (otherwise, one might think lines like "I've bled all I can I won't bleed no more" have something to do with pointy-teeth and bad fake accents, or that "Marian" is about suicide), and a sense of humour helps as well. After all, the band isn't comprised of post-operative brain donors...unlike, say, Motley Crue. There is depth, and one can try to penetrate that depth. The fact that most people don't bother might have something to do with the lack of interest in putting out a record. Why put out a disc of well-thought-out material that's held close to the heart when people are going to think it's the return of the King of the Bats? Why put out work that you've sweated blood over (ohhh...her we go with the vampires again) when you know it's going to be misinterpreted as some sort of moronic lifestyle statement?
