What's GAF mean?
Andrew at his most delicious - thank you!
I was more scared by the MTV Vj's wardrobes than Patricia's big hair.
MTV back when they actually played videos!

GAF - Goth As F*ck as far as I know.
Pasty's hair scared/scares the flying f*ck out of me personally. You could hide in it & never be found. She could hide in it too... at the same time. You could probably even breed large wild animals in it.

Maybe it's too early in the morning, but I've now got this weird image in my head of Pasty renting out her hair to various Chinese zoos as part of a Panda breeding programme....Purple Light wrote:GAF - Goth As F*ck as far as I know.

Actually, the title of this topic has made me think - why DON'T MTV play videos any more??? Ok I know in recent years the ones they DID play were sh*te, but going back to the heady days of "120 minutes" in the late 80's/early 90's, it was actually quite good for a while....(goes all misty eyed)
Perhaps someone can report them for breach of the Trades Descriptions act or something? Just for Fun?

What, don't you like 'Cribs' or 'Pimp My Ride'
I watched that 120 Minutes thingy on the Sisters, most impressive. It does seem a shame that it isn't shown anymore, but even if it was, I wouldn't know - I've sworn off MTV as far too annoying.

Was MTV really as good as we remember it back in the early 90's or are we just getting nostalgic?
What ever happened to Steve Blame?

120 Minutes with Paul 'Love and Pride' King was the businessGimme_The_Ring wrote:Was MTV really as good as we remember it back in the early 90's or are we just getting nostalgic?

I remember an episode with Nick Cave where he totally slagged off MTV, saying it was a record executive's wet dream, then he paused and looked at Paul ......"but your show's alright"
But then Paul King left to join VH1 and Miles Hunt (from the 'stuffies) took over and it started to go downhill

Oh yes Miles Hunt, made a couple of good tracks but that was about it.
The thing is even if MTV still had shows like 120 Minutes I doubt I'd watch as a lot of modern music doesn't really float my boat these days I'm afraid to say.
I'm only 31 as well.

As far as I'm concerned, a Crib is something you put small humans in; a Pimp is (loosely speaking) an "agent" for prostitutes, and "My Ride" is probably a horsey type thing.timsinister wrote:What, don't you like 'Cribs' or 'Pimp My Ride'

Things get worse though - even Kerrang is crap now, that was quite good about 4 or 5 years ago (even showed This Corrosion occasionally) - but now it seems that Blink 182 or Good Charlotte are on consant rotation. Ooooh, they're sooo heavy man....
That said, I'll probably still bloody watch some of it soon in the vain hope of seeing the new Tool "Vicarious" single......
And no, Mile's Hunt's show wasn't quite as good as Paul King's... although I suspect that could be because the alternative scene in the mid nineties was pretty poor, at least to my tastes!
