Question about G-th and Sisters?

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Do most people on Heartland see themselves as a bit Gothy, were they once Goths or have they been put off being goths by AE's comments; or are there Sisters fans that were never Goth? Just curious.

Personally, when I was younger I used too see myself as half gothy, I would wear black (no makeup-phew) but would still have a bit of a mosh to the Sex Pistols or Dead Kennedys (and disliked The m*****n and Siouxsie)?

I once was a victime of the hype, which means I used to think of myself in goth terms. That was in my late teens and it lasted for two to three years. The dude who got me into the Sisters was a goth himself so I figured the Sissies were indeed, well, gothic.
I got fed up with goth around the age of twenty and then came the goth-bashing era which is still more or less an ongoing thing. There were still a couple of bands I regarded with some respect though : the Sissies of course, FotN, DCD, Cocteau Twins... The only difference was that I wasn't thinking in goth terms anymore.
It's only later that I really realized how much :von: hated goths, that I learned about the "f**k goths" tees, etc. I found it extremely amusing. ;D

I think the most annoying thing about the goth milieu was their unwillingness to acknowledge or even simply admit that their music had roots, that for example Rozz Williams was after all a David Bowie fan, that the Sissies were into Motörhead, Suicide, etc.
That and the infamous "not dark enough" comment. :urff:

I'm definitely a goth. But I don't go overboard on looking particularly gothy, because I prefer to spend my money on music.

Like the album pictured.

Never understood what all the Sisters/Goth fuss was all about; Eldritch should really be a little more relaxed about it all!

Goth for me has always been primarily about MUSIC; and it's just a way to describe/pigeonhole a certain type of sound/atmosphere.

But having said that - Black does LOOK good. And velvet is far nicer than denim. That's just a matter of taste then, really!

It all depends of course on how far one is to go in pursuing the idea of 'being a goth'... and it can, of course, easily go too far!!!

I wear black because it goes with anything, write pithy introspective ramblings accompanied by arpeggiated minor chords and probably listen to too much late 70s/early 80s music for my own good. That's me, whether it makes me a goth or not is peripheral.

I wear black because;
A)Its very slimming
B)I'm colour blind
C)Oh yeah and I'm a Goth.this week,according to current labelling legislation I am a TRAD-GOTH.
Badlander is bang on with his Goths thinking goth music was the be-all and end all,I'd like to add that a great many were cliquey, arrogant bastards to boot.To be fair most of these came to goth from the crappy New-romantic scene, but some of us came from the punk scene and we were much cooler than the puffy goths. You could always spot an ex-punk goth in the 80's,we were the ones joining the Psychobillies in the Wrecking, kicking s**t out of the "Dandy-fop" goths.Frilly shirts are for drag queens, bring back biker leather jackets and doc martens,I say!

I'm going to refrain from insulting the puffy goff crowd.
But for f**k sake just say no to that pastry.

No. I’m not goth. And I can understand why Von doesn’t like being labelled goth.

The label you are given by yourself or others gives the majority of people a preconceived idea about who you are.

This brings to mind what is goth. Actually, normal people told me I'm goth. Yeah. I was around 16 and they said "you're goth". In the long run, I realised the label had its advantages when getting along with people and cutting to the chase. Saves time. Sometimes, it even saves money.

I couldn't care less what Mr. Eldritch thinks about goths. Each to his own and it's all good.

Be affraid, it`ll be awfull...

By the way, can any body remember how the S/M-crap got entangled with the gothic scene? I remember a report from a Cure concert in the late 80ies/early 90ies, when a lot of the audiences got rather upset with a domina show delivered in front of the stage, but sooner or later they seem to have bought the crap.. :urff: !

Anyway: Me no G**h, but I have a minor weakness for the stuff, I like wearing black as it just looks better.. somehow.. No idea why. I actually never thought about that.
And a great lot of the g**hgirls/ladies are BEAUTIES in their dresses..
I like that style a lot more than the popular fashion!
