Like losing your virginity

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

OOh I'm all excited about the Sisters gig in Leeds, it will be only the second time I've got to see them (1st was in Manc in 2000 - yeah, I know, I'm newbie scum)

Was just wondering wot was the first Sisters gig youse all went to? Was anyone lucky enough to see them in the FALAA days?

My first and only was in Stockholm, Sweden 1991. I can't get rid of the thought that see them again might break the magic memory of that night...

First time I saw them was Hamburg Dock's, 16 and 17 Nov 1990. On 16th I stayed a little further back and enjoyed watching the show, 17th I was right down the front and lasted until Gimme Shelter when I had to move back and get a drink of water of I'd have passed out. Oh happy days!

1991, in Hultsfred. It was a good show and a magical drive there.

My first Sisters' gig was in Milan (10-03-1991) and it was a very very nice show. 8) Unfortunately, I had to wait til last June to see them again on stage... :?

Ditto for me Ed, although I only managed to get seated tix... :|
The gig as I remember, was fabulous, although the Reading Festival performance the following year (my 2nd gig) surpassed it, and I was right down the front for that one. It's still my favourite gig. :D

The first Wemberlee night...

Have to admit I was unimpressed somehow...

Think the venue was just soooooo 'big' and I was so far back that it lost summat.

Also I was in the seated bit (I do remember there was a standy uppy bit at the front) which always kills the atmos.

The support (The Mothers if I remember correctly - who the fook were they?) were cr*p I seem to recollect...

And generally it was a bit of a disappointment...

Plus I remember wheezing all the way back up to Leeds cuz of all the cigarette smoke I'd had the misfortune to passively inhale...bl**dy g*ths, eh???    :D :von:

They HAVE improved since then.

Here's to Manchester 'n' Leeds in April... :notworthy:

The Mothers indeed!

It was so quiet during their set that I was able to heckle at will.

My constant enquiries before each tune as to whether was to be the last song, resulted in the sing repeatedly bashing his head on the mike till it bled.

I seam to remember barracking them about a shiny blue acoustic guitar, too. Why? I forget

But the best think was when the vocalist finally said 'This is the last song' It nearly lifted the roof off Wembley!!!

I lost my Sisters "Cheery" at Reading 91 - I was only 3 rows from the front, in the middle, when my girlfriend at the time fell over - not a goodthing (sic) to do with 45,000 people behind you - all pushing forward.

My personal fave gig (so far) was June 92 in the NEC (Brum!) - standing tiks - down the front! Woot Woot!!

Very much looking forward to Bristol in a few weeks :-)

Boston, March, 1991.

After the show, I met (or at least said hello to/was acknowledged by) all of the band members, save one. Guess which one that was? ;) :von: I did have a personal "revelation" a bit later, though, hehehe...

The show and its aftermath was, for me, what I'd assume an out-of body experience might be like... *Sigh*
I left my heart in Ballycastle...

1992 I *think*...Leeds...liked them since '86 as a result of getting into them thro' the 'other lot'...

They were great...& then I left it 10 years to go & see them again (not sure why - probably combination of '91-94, running bar at small music venue, snooty about Big Rock Gigs, & 96'-'99, running a pub in the arse end of nowhere, unable to get to anything more rock'n'roll than Sheringham Seaside Carnival...don't ask). Saw them at Leeds & Brum last year & was monumentally underwhelmed - still going to see them 4 times this year, but that's mostly because I'm easily led & Ed tells me there'll be beer on sale...
