lets go to Church ;-)

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Nah,my old son.Its that old middle class thing isn't it?While said Vicar was at Uni doing his theology degree he probably had a couple of weeks rebelling against mater and pater as a goth when they refused to suppliment his grant anymore. Now the nob has watched Coronation street and heard the word goth mentioned and thought he can show how cool and trendy he is,except as usual the church is about 30 years behind on cool and trendy at the best of times.
But regretting being a goth is definately something I did on Saturday night when I saw two bands that advertised themselves as "goth" and turned out to be both somekind of bastard offspring of a bizarre coupling between Iron Maiden and Metal-licker,Beware should either "Moriarti and the Sith" or "Abigails Mercy"come you're way they are both horrendous heavy metal s**t e dressed in goth Knickers.

Completely OFF TOPIC I am off to a Zodiac Mindwarp gig in Cardiff a week Thursday - which is gonna be great. The only unfortunate thing is that they are supporting "Love / Hate"

There is a regular "Goth" night, held monthly at the Ice Rink in Cardiff. I, and many other like minded friends, do NOT bother to attend this event as the music is CRAP!

Its all Cyber / EBM and the regulars ALL love to flap about with glow sticks to "Hardcore Motherf**ker" or something.

No-one has ever looked good in Goggles - unless they are swimming.

Apologies to any cyber / emb fans reading this. To me it just sounds like Rave Music without the Prozac

I have no opinion about the "Church" per se, its not something that I want to think about. Other "Life Matters" are far more important than Doctrine

Please elaborate.Don't think the bassist out of Abigails will be too happy either and I know his brother. No offence but neither band are my bag and unless I missed something Metallica(who's tune both bands covered in a "Grande Finale")are NOT and have never been anything to do with goth.

Well spotted, boudicca!

Professor d00mw0lf is an ardent fan of one, and best friends with most of the other. Everyone's entitled to their opinions, of course - having seen little of either, I'm not passing comment.

Where is she, anyway?

On another topic, I can't argue with Bill's comments, but what can you do? Old Goth is slipping away, as the saying goes, they are 'few and far between'. Look at Heartland, there's a handful of us under twenty-five, and less of the new wave want to hear music made in the eighties. They'd much rather believe it all started with HIM or some other laughable nineties reject...

Good Grief, cynicism on your cornflakes? It's a little too early...

It has always been thus... Back when I was a teen 70s rock was the devil ! :urff:

And I don't mean the devil in a I-hate-myself-and-I-kill-myself-every-morning goth kind of way. :innocent:

I've considered myself to be anti - Christian. What I probably was was anti - The Church. I don't have any problem with Jesus. It's the double standards of most who claim to be his followers that I have a real problem with.

Although it's surrounded by alot of hype there may be something in the present notion that The Church covered up alot of Jesus' teachings.

Anyway, wonder what Depeche they'll be playing, Personal Jesus?

Granting that Jesus ever really existed (which I'm not sure is necessarily the case) it's difficult to know how much of his original teachings ever made it into the Bible as we know it now. See here for an introduction to various scholarly theories on the historicity of Jesus.

It's almost certain that at least some, if not all, of Jesus' sayings are later fabrications by the gospel writers and editors, and the earliest canonical Christian documents (Paul's authentic letters, Mark's Gospel) have the least biographical detail and "quotes". The early Christian documents that survive show a clear process of mythmaking and syncretion around a central figure who may, ironically for someone around whom one of the largest religions (or group of religions) is built, remain forever obscure.
The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.
