Feuer und Wasser kommt nie zusammen
Kann man nicht binden sind nicht verwandt
In Funken versunken steh ich in Flammen
und bin im Wasser verbrannt.
Sorry, just ingtrigued on everyone's take on this? Bollox or not? Star signs a-go-go? Or just a boy-girl thing?

Any one lend me a Babel fish?
The photographs of God I bought have almost faded away
For those few of you that don`t speak krautish :
"Fire an water never comes together
one can`t bind them are not related
sunk in sparks I stand in flames
and get burnt in the water"
I vote for the boy/girl thingy. The star signs as topic are a good idea though..
Putting them together I´d think it says something like
"Sorry, we just don`t match. I`m a gemini and you`re an ar*ehole!"
Just slightly more diplomatic..
"Diplomacy is the art of telling somebody to get of the floor in such a way that he looks forward to the trip."

Well, I translated it allmost word by word. maybe should tell you that in german, we "stehen in Flammen" (stand in flames) while in english you ARE in flames. Which actually makes more sense.. As, in that case, you don`t stand very long, unless you`re tied to some some stick (by good christians, probably).

Hmm ... the literal translation of the song is (complete with Till made up word "Schenkeleck" [1] is. ..
It's beautiful when she swims the breaststroke
Then I can see into her core
Not that the breast is what's beautiful
I just swim after her
Sparking dust flows from the center
A firework shoots from her crotch
Fire and water don't come together
Can't be bound, aren't related
Sunken in sparks, I am aflame
and am burned in the water
Burned in the water
It's beautiful when she swims naked
then I want to see her from behind
Not that the breasts are attractive
Her legs open like scissors
Then from its hiding place, the flame
glows hotly from her thigh-angle [1]
She swims past and doesn't notice me
I am her shadow, she stands in the light
There is no hope and no confidence
Fire and water don't come together
Can't be bound, aren't related
Sunken in sparks, I am aflame
and am burned in the water
Like this, the blood boils in my loins
I grab her with wet hands
Smooth as a fish and cold as ice
She won't waste herself on me
I know
Fire and water never come together
Can't be bound, aren't related
Sunken in sparks, I am aflame
and am burned in the water
[1] " is a made up word and is supposed to mean the same thing as "crotch".
I did once ask someone who saw Till on a regular basis what his lyrics meant. She laughed in my face and said 'nobody tries to understand Till's lyrics. They are his words. A bit like Kafka."
You guys are making it interesting with your interpretations.

That's interesting. My German is shit. Word for word I can make a sentence for everyone (german) to laugh at me. What I don't undertsand is the nuances. Get a man who's singing in nuances and Rrrrrrrrrrrrrsteim are very big on word-play ... AND he's making up words..? [1] definately relates to naughty bits..
"Schenkel" can be thigh as well as lower leg.
"Eck" is a shortened form of "Ecke" which here doubtlessly means corner.
A flame there might be due to eating red hot chilli?
By the way: Johnny, great translation! (Blimey! Gotta improve me english!)

Aye! Rammstein are some of the very few who make interesting german lyrics.. Not the usual Herz/Schmerz-Liebe/Triebe-crap.Johnny M wrote:That's interesting. My German is shit. You hardly ever find krauts who really are able to use their native language.

There is an ocean between Kafka and Til.Johnny M wrote: I did once ask someone who saw Till on a regular basis what his lyrics meant. She laughed in my face and said 'nobody tries to understand Till's lyrics. They are his words. A bit like Kafka."
Nonetheless Til found a genuine way of combining shocking contents with old-fashioned romantic expressions, which fell on fruity grounds in Germany and later in the rest of the world.
I find the lyrics a bit lofty, if not embarrassing in most cases.
Put their heads on f*cking pikes in front of the venue for all I care.

You'd just get luke-warm water.

He cursed Diarmait the High King of Ireland before the Battle of Cooldrevny in 561 - "By Earth, Water and Fire will you perish".
Diarmait was impaled on a spear, fell backwards into a barrel of rain water, and then the burning building collapsed on top of him.

I remember Blixa Bargeld saying that the reason he abandoned his native German for English was that bands like Rammstein were maltreating the language to the point where he didn't want to be associated with it. Excellent lyricist, Blixa, seems like a complete jerk otherwise, though.eotunun wrote:Aye! Rammstein are some of the very few who make interesting german lyrics.. BTW, shouldn't it be
"Feuer und Flammen kommen nie zusammen"?

Maybe, but the lyrics are "Feuer und WASSER..." and then I think it is a singular verb. I translated it in Dutch and both sound good, but I think other people know better than me... I only studied German for two years...

Hopefully the luke-warm water doesn`t come from the Schenkeleck..markfiend wrote:"Feuer und Wasser kommt nie zusammen"
