Check this out - in every thread concerning the current tour, some brand-new member of this forum pokes their head up to say that the gig sucked. The words are only very slightly changed, and it's always a brand-new member.
Is there an organised campaign to "do down" the current Sisters tour? Is someone deliberately "spamming" every thread under assumed names to give an impression that the band sucks now?
an organised campaign?

Let's face it : they do get their share of bad reviews, but then again it was ever thus. Maybe a bit more this time around because it's a very long tour, and they go places they've never been to before (Paris, etc.). You've got US fans hearing the "new" songs for the first time. You've got "fans" going to the show expecting an 85-kind of gig. No wonder they're disappointed.
So that's one side of the story. The other side is that you never know what goes on in a troll's mind.
Or maybe it's just Eldo testing our faith.
As if he cared.

I think it's just a simple case of these people going to the gigs and expecting to see the 84 line up style gigs and that's not what they're getting. No bass player etc...
I guess they've paid their money and they're entitled to their opinion and that's what we're here for - to tell them times have changed.
There's no conspiracy - but then again just because you're paranoid....

Live and let live people. If someone doesn't 'get' what the Sisters are up to nowadays, there's a chance they ain't gonna like. That's been ongoing since 97 certainly, possibly throughout the bands career, but so what? Everyone is allowed an opinion. To many it may seem the band are close to running on empty. So what? They're never gonna get decent press, never have besides the odd Floodland review, so there's no point worrying about it now, or worrying about conspiracy theories. If you dig, you dig, get down the front at the next gig and show it. If not, who cares? Not us lot, so don't let it bother you.

Of course I wasn't there, but I'm pretty sure that way back in 84 when Body and soul came out, there must have some pretty mad people. Just think of it : no Ben Gunn, the Dok on prozac, and keyboards !!!Planet Dave wrote:That's been ongoing since 97 certainly, possibly throughout the bands career, but so what?
Where the f**k have all the good times gone !
Body electric was quite a big departure from the first single, wasn't it, which in its turn probably didn't sound anything like the rehearsals. Didn't that make you mad already ?

There might be something to it; I find it hard to believe how quickly this "The Sisters mime to backing tapes" bullshît has spread unless it's a deliberate misinformation campaign.

the same posts that accuse them of miming to backing tapes usually go on to say how bad the vocals were, how many mistakes the guitarists made etc etc too
like, duh!
nah, its like dave says - they arent everyone's bag these days. some people just dont like the current incarnation of the sisters sound.
for me it was never about the sound - it was about the vibe, and the groove. both of which have never lessened.

It's probably that silly twit from Sunshine Blind. And all of their fans. And the Vampire King of Los Angeles. And other assorted wankers who were upset by the lack of capes and bondage gear on stage. People doing it seem to be taking it personally.

Nah, the very same thing happened in '90. First tour in 5 years, folks didn't get the new rockier sound at all, we got a load of posts to Dominion ranting about the lack of a drummer. Almost word for word to what's happening now.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Why can't people accept what the girls are playing, go down the front and enjoy it?

If the guitar's were perfect all the time, then we'd know they were backing tapes. I've heard a few audience recordings of the current tour and I like what I've heard. Looking forward to seeing them in Manchester.Quiff Boy wrote:the same posts that accuse them of miming to backing tapes usually go on to say how bad the vocals were, how many mistakes the guitarists made etc etc too

As for an earlier comment suggesting that Hussey is responsible for some of the bad reviews. It's possible, I reckon he is turning bitter in his old age. Hussey blasted Pete Burns in all but name on the MWIS site recently, maybe he got an advance copy of the autobiography Pete had done and didn't like what he put. Comments inside the lacklustre m*****n CD anthology with comments such as "should have been a huge hit" and the like suggests he has nothing better to do than to slag off anything and everyone. Maybe if he wasn't such an all round twit...

I thought one of his great recent disappointments was the lack of a new Sisters album? Or was that just a barb masquerading as a compliment?

A barb masquerading as a compliment me thinks. If the m*****n were so bloody good, why aren't they shifting loads of albums and singles then?MrChris wrote:I thought one of his great recent disappointments was the lack of a new Sisters album? Or was that just a barb masquerading as a compliment?

Seconded. The last songs of their make I heard were dull. The Depeche covering job was a mess. Maybe well played, but lacking any spirit.. A pitty after they did make good songs, once upon a time, someday in the past..RetroGoth wrote:A barb masquerading as a compliment me thinks. Dispite thinking that Hussey is a twit of the highest order (for a short-arse), I did like the m*****n until that awful Aura album. Mark Thwaite hardly played on it, most of the guitars were Hussey. The album was recorded in such a bad way, bass and drums were recorded on one side of The Atlantic (?) so no wonder the album didn't come together right. Mark Thwaite, a decent bloke like Gary Marx, was sacked just after Aura's release. I was surprised he returned to the band. I digress. If Hussey could not be bothered to get the band together to record an album but could for a tour, proves he's a dickhead in my books.eotunun wrote:

Aura is not the only album that suffers. I doubt if there are many Yes fans here but 90125 was brilliant, Big Generator wasn't for the same reason for not having the band together in the studio to record, arguably, their showpiece. We might have recordings of concerts but concerts are temporay things, albums should be made to last so if they can't be bothered...

I won't hear anything against the m*****n. No, they may not be the most original band in the world, but it's not like the Sisters are either.
And perhaps the Sisters AREN'T as good as they used to be. I don't know, I only have bootlegs from now and then to compare with. But many people may well prefer the current incarnation, and many may prefer the older ones. It's their choice. For each person who loves the indie lineup, or the FALAA lineup and style, or the post-VT lineup, or the modern/current lineups, there'll be someone who dislikes that same lineup.
