Windows Movie Maker 1

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

(I am on Windows ME).........

Last year my PC got a virus and we had to reinstall windows. I managed to keep all of my files (documents, music, etc) but programs (e.g. Windows Movie Maker 1) were lost.

Anyway. Today I ran the Windows Update and it found an update regarding MM1. So downloaded that and it installed a desktop shortcut.

The icon was back, but still no Movie Maker. When I clicked the icon a .dll file was reported missing (wmmutil.dll). I hunted it down, and put it in C:\Program Files\Windows\System. Then a different error came up, saying wmmres.dll was missing. I got that as well.

Now, when I try and open it, it says under the title "Error Starting Program", "The MOVIEMK.EXE file is linked to missing export WMMRES.DLL:1."
The only option is to click "Ok". Underneath is another pop-up, saying,

"C:\Program Files\MovieMk.exe

A device attached to the system is not functioning."

I thought this might be the .dll I put in, but I've tried several downloaded versions and all fail. They can't all be bad, can they?

Anyway, any help or advice you have on how to get MM1 to work would be greatly appreciated. Please help!
