Everybody knows the sisters are doing a slightly different version of there old songs live on tour.
My question to everyone:
(IF there would be a new record )
How would you feel about them re-releasing there old songs but in the "new" version?
Would you see it as a bad thing, or not?
New? Old? songs

First I'd like the unreleased songs to be recorded and released.
Second I'd be happy with any re-releases. I'd be happy with any new official stuff actually...

Seeing as Alice 93 version was released along with Under The Gun i feel it would be great to hear updated verisons of most, if not all the early singles.
Would not a 2006 update of "The Reptile House EP" be a wonderful thing. I know I would buy it, then again I buy anything actually "official"
Or course VON has already done the re-record / re-release idea with Body Electric in 1984 - utilising a 24 track studio and TOL 92.

Dario Argento once said he was strongly against remaking any of his old movies. They only have a meaning in a certain context, at some point in his life, etc. So I guess it's up to the artist to judge whether a new version makes sense or not. But to be honest, I'd be way more interested in an actual new album.
New version, why not ? But not out of lazyness, lack of inspiration, etc.

I'm not sure how much of TOL '92 was Von's idea and how much of it was the limit of record company manoeuvering he was prepared to accept at the time.
BE '84 really only existed as a service to the fans: it was impossible to buy the original 7" at the time, so here you go.
Alice '93 seems to have been a case of "Oh God, we need a B side!!!"
I'd say Von would be quite happy to leave the original recordings as they stand, and settle for the occasional live update. Although I'd LOVE to hear Damage Done '06
The biggest back catalogue crime by far is the 84/85 B sides. I say get them out (adding in Long Train and Emma to bring it up to album length), fix up the whole FALAA remix mess, then maybe - and only maybe - re-recordings become an option.
A new LP first, of course.

If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

I am with Pat here, I want the unreleased ones in a Studio version. That`s a good starter. And afterwards, a bigger bunch of brilliant new ones. Someday later, with no hurry. I still get my pleasure from listening to the old stuff, it`ll take quite some time for the (relatively) new songs to wear of.

no thanks, i'd say what's done is done and should be left untouched. if you want to hear the old songs in current style, go to a concert. chances are they've played within a 10 km radius of your home this year, so that shouldn't be a problem.
i don't like alice 1993 and as a fastidious fan, i'm quite uncomfortable with tol 1992 as well. making re-recordings of 20 year old classics seems pretty uninspired and smells like selling out. although the occasional updated studio recording as a bonus on the new 12" would be admissable

Mind you, if fans were really after it they could have bought the "They Shall Not Pass" LP from CNT, though it didn't have Andrenchrome on it, did it?
Also, question, is it just me or does the They Shall Not Pass edit of Body Electric seem longer, perhaps a lengthier fade out?

Most if not all of the 80-83 material was available as boots before SGWBM came out. I bet you still bought, didn't you ?Doktor Gott wrote:That was available on the some boys wander by mistake boot weren't it?mh wrote:

Cant speak for the vinyl but the CD of TSNP has Andrenochrome on it. Thats the reason I bought it... Dont remember Body Electric being longer though. Mind you I havent listened to that cd for quite a while. It's not a bad compilation really, there are some half decent tunes. Mind you there are one or two that are complete bobbins as well!Doktor Gott wrote:mmmm.. and it really was lacking compared to the original I think, its almost as if the primal rage has been chemically subdued..mh wrote:

personally i always considered this being a mysterious release, but the current bid doesn't really reflect that opinion.
I like these calm little moments before the storm. It reminds me of Beethoven. Can you hear it? It's like when you put your head to the grass and you can hear the growin' and you can hear the insects.

To be honest.
I couldn't care less about new material. Not one tiny bit.
What I WOULD like would be:
MORE gigs
LONGER gigs
MORE OLD songs on setlists
BETTER QUALITY sound
A DECENT hair cut.
If I could see a gig, with at least third of the set made up of FALAA and earlier material, all with decent sound quality then I'd be much happier than with a new album.
Yes I'm still sore that my only sisters gig was Astoria 06

Well, I would be interested in buying re-recorded/new songs as
long as would sing in Dutch, that is.
Especially YCBTO, there is so much sweet LOVE in that song, can't
wait to hear that in dutch...
